Job Title:         Database Analyst

Department:    AHP Finance

Reports to:      Director, Analytics

 

Summary:

Arcadian Health Plan is a fast growing $400+ million revenue healthcare company that is building a financial analysis and analytics team to help guide and manage the growth and resource deployment. The Database Analyst is responsible for supporting the processes that will assist leaders in making strategic and operational data-based decisions by delivering timely, accurate and relevant data analysis and financial information.  This position will be supporting a reporting function within the analytics group and includes the development and production of weekly/monthly analysis of results, cost/utilization trends, and KPIs related to one or more of the company’s operations.  This position will initially be temporary will the potential to permanent hire. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop, build and analyze timely and accurate weekly and monthly financial reports through extensive use of Access and SQL.
  • Perform audit and quality validation checks on financial analysis inputs and results. .
  • Create the analytical tools and programming code/language to support new or ad hoc report creation.
  • Assist in the development of Access/SQL databases and migration of current Access databases to SQL.
  • Review month-end financial reports, provide variance analysis, research financial irregularities, and use the analysis to develop meaningful financial reporting, including completion within the requested timeframes.
  • Provide necessary pro-formas to evaluate business opportunities as necessary.
  • Develop, build and maintain the database structures used to analyze monthly healthcare revenue and cost trends including utilization by market and specialty, PMPMs and gross dollar changes.
  • Participate in the database tracking and management, development and maintenance of performance metrics, measurements, methods, and targets.
  • Assist with identifying performance improvement opportunities.
  • Work closely with Finance management to improve financial analysis, reporting, budgeting, and forecasting processes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

The Database analyst candidate must be comfortable working in SQL with large data sets.  Other qualifications to be successful include:.

  • Solid Access and SQL database skills used for financial analysis and forecasting are critical to this role.
  • Candidate must have a strong background in quantitative analysis performed against large data sets residing in SQL databases.
  • The successful candidate will have advanced Excel skills, including utilizing pivot tables, formulas, importing and exporting data from ODBC sources, and manipulating data as required.
  • Equally important will be a person who is inquisitive, can identify anomalies and business trends, investigate further with one’s own initiative, and effectively communicate findings.
  • Very strong organizational and follow through skills are required.
  • Quality checking an ambiguous data set and meeting firm deadlines are key responsibilities in this position.
  • The candidate will be a resourceful individual who enjoys working independently, yet is also a strong team player.
  • Be prepared to answer business questions and demonstrate, on a whiteboard, advanced knowledge of SQL, Access and Excel.

 

 

Education and/or experience:

  • 2-3 years experience creating and developing SQL script
  • B.A. in Computer Science, Economics, or Finance
  • Strong Access, SQL, and Excel Skills
  • Attention to Detail and Inquisitiveness
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently perform individual tasks within a project.
  • Medicare Advantage experience is helpful, but not required.
