As the Database Developer/Administrator, this individual will be responsible for closely working with application development and business intelligence teams to enhance the performance and functionality of existing databases and systems. The Database Developer/Administrator will also participate in the design and delivery of new database solutions in our development, test, and production environments. Primary responsibilities will include writing stored procedures, triggers, set up jobs, SSIS (DTS) packages for supporting the applications and reporting systems. This individual will be responsible for SQL Server Database Administration entailing installation, maintenance, replication and administration of all SQL Server databases in a 24x7x365 environment. This includes performance and capacity planning, security administration, sizing, monitoring, tuning, backup and recovery, for all Beacon enterprise SQL Server databases. Additionally, this person will support the developers as well as users of both development and production databases.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Plan and implement the synchronization of data across several development, testing and production environments
• Evaluate the merits/ benefits of available system upgrades and enhancements - implement as necessary
• Run diagnostic tools to identify database performance bottlenecks, and take appropriate corrective actions to improve database performance. Develop tools and reports if necessary
• Writing stored procedures, triggers, set up jobs, SSIS/DTS packages for supporting all the data import and export projects.
• Developing, programming and maintaining scripts for all data migration and extraction projects.
• Create data extraction routines as per industry standard specifications or specifications received from customers.
• Responsible for the database design, performance tuning, capacity planning, performing data change control, installing and upgrading database software, implementing production, test, development and staging databases.
• Liaison with the functional, development and system's administration staff of the IT department to advise on problems and implement solutions.
• Administer and implement security integrity controls.
• Performing periodic performance tuning, integrity and maintenance of SQL Server databases
• Create, document and maintain all the replications of the SQL databases.
• Perform and monitor trends in disk space utilization on key database servers
• Manage backup/recovery for SQL Server instances and Validate the integrity of database back-up routines/schedules
• Follow and adhere to policies, procedures and standards relating to database management, application management, support, and troubleshooting.
• Work with development teams to tune SQL queries.
• Oversee database and resource capacity planning including assisting with hardware sizing and procurement
• Develop database specifications, documentation
• Lead database centric projects and the database aspect of larger projects
• Performs problem resolution and root cause analysis along with recommending and implementing preventive techniques
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor
Essential Qualifications:
• Advanced SQL knowledge required.
• Have an in-depth understanding of MS SQL Server backup and recovery methodologies and first hand implementation experience of backup/recovery solutions.
• Good first hand experience with performance tuning, capacity Planning, database migrations and upgrades.
• Extensive knowledge on developing and supporting large scale tables, triggers, views, DTS packages and indexes.
• Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
• Must be available for off-hour support
• Experienced self-starter with excellent prioritization and time management skills and the ability to work independently
• Ability to handle multiple priorities and meet aggressive deadlines.
Experience/Education:
• BA/BS Degree in Computer Information Systems or a related field or equivalent work experience required.
• Four or more years hands-on experience maintaining and supporting MS SQL Server databases.
o Support of large enterprise-wide high availability real-time databases
o Designing relational database structure layouts (physical and logical)
o Database & SQL statement tuning
o SQL Server monitoring, proactive and reactive maintenance
o Backups/Restores from Tape and Disk media
o System upgrades, capacity estimation
o Data acquisition/data loading tools and process
o Clustering and replication
o Security model & threat detection / prevention.
o RAID configurations.
• MCDBA and/or MCITP: Database Administration certifications a plus
