Database Engineer Stf

Description:
The Senior Database Engineer is primarily responsible for overseeing the installation and maintenance of oracle databases on either a Red Hat Linux or Sun Solaris Environment. This individual is also responsible for all activities related to the administration of computerized databases related to the STP entities as they come into the ITC datacenter.

* Projects long-range requirements for database administration and design in conjunction with other managers in the information systems function.
* Designs, creates, and maintains databases in a client/server environment.
* Conducts quality control and auditing of databases in a client/server environment to ensure accurate and appropriate use of data.
* Advises users on access to various client/server databases.
* Designs, implements, and maintains complex databases with respect to access methods, access time, device allocation, validation checks, organization, protection and security, documentation, and statistical methods.
* Applies knowledge and experience with database technologies, development methodologies, and front-end (if required)/back-end programming languages (e.g., SQL). Performs database programming and supports systems design.
* Includes maintenance of database dictionaries, overall monitoring of standards and procedures, file design and storage, and integration of systems through database design.
* Designs and administers programs to include policies, standards, guidelines, training programs, and a viable quality assurance process for disaster recovery.
* Oversees and reviews the testing and implementation of software, data systems, and data networks to ensure that the integrity and security of all electronic data and data systems are adequately protected.
* Facilitates the preparation of an organization-wide business resumption plan.
* Assists in the coordination and establishment of disaster recovery programs and business resumption planning across client server platforms.
* Coordinates and monitors simulation testing across all platforms.
* Designs and administers programs to include policies, standards, guidelines, training programs, and a viable quality assurance process for disaster recovery.

Qualifications:
* Excellent communication and teamwork skills
* Experience supporting Oracle database
* Demonstrable competence in Oracle SQL as a DBA on a Unix Operating System, will consider ORACLE DBA experience under a Windows Server Operating System.
* Must have demonstrated Database Administrator's responsibilities to include the following activities:
* Development of policy and procedures as they relate to database maintenance, security and archiving
* Installing and upgrading Oracle Server, clients and application development programs.
* Allocating system storage and planning future storage requirements for all database systems.
* Creating primary database storage structures (table-spaces) after application developers have designed an application.
* Creating primary objects (tables, views, indexes) once application developers have designed an application.
* Modifying the database structure, as necessary, from information given by application developers.
* Enrolling users and maintaining system security.
* Controlling and monitoring user access to the database.
* Monitoring and optimizing the performance of the database.
* Planning for backup and recovery of database information.
* Maintaining archived data.
* Managing database performance
* Backing up and restoring the database.
