The Deputy sports editor, will, in the absence of the sports editor, take over the content planning and gathering and will liaise continuously with the hub and the section’s resources. The Deputy Editor should also be able to work in an environment where constant evaluation and rapid decision making is necessary.

The ability to quickly evaluate and ensure a balance of media content coverage for the organisation’s varied audiences will be also be an asset.

Key result area:

Determine through selection the priority, suitability and quality of the content

Publish content across all media channels

Participate in and contribute to the continuous news desk operation and liaise with other sections

Alert the Hub Editor and other Section Heads on important content for Page One, prominent or immediate publication for all media channels

Take final responsibility for published content. (e.g. sign off final pages, approval of content to Web)

 Applicants must be able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines. Due to the nature of the job, some flexibility in working hours will be required.
