Design Engineer

Job Description

The primary purpose of this position is to apply engineering principles for the design of Orthopedic implants and instruments.  Ensures GB internal and external customer expectations are met or exceeded.

 

Duties include but are not limited to:

 

  • Designs and creates instruments, implants and assembly drawings for the Orthopedics market. 
  • Interfaces with suppliers for the release of designed component and assembly documentation. 
  • Interfaces with sales team and technical program managers in specification development.
  • Interface with customers regarding projects for design recommendations, DFMEA and progression of projects. 
  • Interacts with all levels of the organization to ensure that all necessary procedures and processes are in place. 
  • Plans, organizes, and manages related projects as appropriate.
  • Functions as a fully competent engineer in all conventional aspects of subject matter or functional area of assignments. 
  • Plans and conducts work requiring judgment in independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation/modification of standard  techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Works independently to achieve desired results.
  • Investigates, develops and implements new process technologies of moderate to major scope.
  • Adheres to Greatbatch Core Beliefs and all safety and quality requirements.
  • Performs other functions as required.

 Qualifications:

 

  • Education (Minimum Needed):   4 Year Degree in Related Field; Master’s degree preferred
  • Experience (Minimum Needed):  7-10 years
  • Specialized Knowledge Needed For Performance of Job:    Computer skills as required by stated accountabilities - Solidworks; Basic word-processing and spreadsheet skills; Problem solving skills
  • Special Skills:  Strong written and oral communication skills; Ability to work both independently and in a team environment. French language skills a plus.
  • Travel:  25% both U.S. and International.  The first 90 days of the position will require heavy travel to the Exton, PA facility for training and transition.
