Design Quality Engineer

Overview:
• Plan and manage activities associated with the implementation of the engineering-based knowledge management system. Secondary activities to include the evaluation and implementation of quality principles and practices within the engineering organization that support business strategies to assure Arvinmeritor products meet or exceed customer's quality, performance and reliability expectations.


Principle Accountabilities:
• Plan and coordinate implementation of the knowledge management initiative within the engineering product line groups. Emphasis on leading the efforts to create and populate the design guide portfolios including formal documentation of tacit ("tribal") knowledge; coordinate activities to optimize test procedures; champion the assessment of finite element models and implementation of identified actions; launch the creation of the generic product DFMEA and DVP portfolios
• Train and coach engineering staff in consistent and efficient application of risk management tools such as DFMEAs, fault tree analysis (FTA) and other reliability tools as appropriate
• Participate in and/or facilitate the implementation of the risk management and reliability tools during the development of new or redesigned products in accordance with the internal product development requirements. Emphasis will be placed on DFMEA creation, FTA, and reliability analysis
• Facilitate the continuous improvement of engineering processes and systems with a direct impact on product quality, warranty, and supply chain performance, as required
• Support development and/or reviews of key design documentation including design review materials, design verification & validation plans and other technical files


Education/Experience:
• Bachelors degree in Engineering or technical field required with minimum of seven years of direct experience
• Knowledge of product development stage gate product development processes (e.g. Concept to Customer (C2C) or Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP)) including involvement in the launch of a new product. Design development experience of vehicle components and products or related manufacturing tools and processes is desirable
• Demonstrated understanding of and experience in applying quality engineering and lean concepts. Experience in facets of quality (site level, supplier, auditing, product development and launch, customer satisfication, and warranty) is desirable
• Demonstrated use of project management principles and tools
• Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals
• Demonstrated ability to influence others to action without direct authority
• Experience in implementing quality systems (ISO9000 or TS16949) or knowledge-based engineering / lean product development system is a plus
• Quality certifications desired (Green Belt, Black Belt, CQE, CQM, CRE)
• Experience with MS Office products required, experience with statistical software is a plus
• Ability to work independently and complete multiple assignments on time
