Summary: 


The Desktop Technician’s role is to provide a single point of contact for end-users to receive support and maintenance within the organization’s desktop computing environment. This includes installing, diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and upgrading all PC hardware and equipment to ensure optimal workstation performance. The person will also troubleshoot problem areas (in person, by telephone, or via e-mail) in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide end-user assistance where required


 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


The duties specified below are representative of the range of duties assigned to this class and are not intended to be an inclusive list.


Ensures continuity of system services for computer users by providing the technical expertise, assistance, and project coordination necessary to install computer software products, modify/repair hardware and resolve technical problems. Duties include configuring machines, installing software, software patches and joining to the correct domain. Other responsibilities include participating in integration testing of new software on existing and intended environments, communicating with vendors and various technical web-sites to obtain software fixes for software and hardware problems, providing technical support for software and hardware problems via the phone and desk site visits, and verifying that nightly backups have been performed.



Qualifications:


Ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities in a demanding environment


Strong background with Microsoft operating system environments and products including but not limited to Windows XP, and Office 2007


Working knowledge of Windows domain interactions, security, and permissions


Ability to work in a ticket driven environment and appropriately document activities in tickets


Effective verbal and written communication skills with proven customer focus and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of users and support staff


Ability to train and support end-users as necessary


Attention to detail is required


Excellent documentation abilities


Excellent time management skills are essential


Must have strong troubleshooting skills


Strong organizational, problem solving and analytical skills are required


Good judgment with the ability to make sound and timely decisions


Education/Experience:


Generally, any combination of education and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical method to demonstrate these qualifications would be:


Associate's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related area or equivalent experience is required


Minimum 2-4 years experience in related field/environment


Language Ability:


Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals,


technical procedures, or governmental regulations. 


Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. 


Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.


Reasoning Ability:


Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.


Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
