Digital and Cloud Engineering, Senior Manager

About the Job

The Senior Manager, Digital Engineering role provides senior technical leadership on product roadmaps and individual projects for Pfizer Digital Solutions and Emerging Technologies (DSET).

Our DSET team provides systems and support for Pfizer’s Digital, Mobile and SFE Platforms. The technical challenges that we solve are on a large scale with an enormous impact to Pfizer’s bottom line. Our team consists of highly collaborative and technically talented people who we enable to deliver awesome solutions to our business problems.

This role will work primarily in a team branded “The Cloud App Team” (CAT) working on our global PHP/Laravel platform. It will collaborate with similar roles on related technologies within the organization, namely AWS, Drupal, Marketo and Mulesoft.

You’ll provide technical leadership on complex digital products/projects with the express aim of making them as simple and efficiently delivered as possible.

You’ll need the knowledge and capability to evaluate and propose detailed solutions and implementation plans and lead a team to deliver on said roadmaps.

You’ll work in partnership with Product Owners, Project Managers, other Business Technology service providers, business team members, senior leaders and stakeholders

Role Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of this position will be providing technical leadership and developing a team of contractors accountable for delivering technical aspects of the roadmap for our Cloud Application platform, as well as large scale regional and global products/projects on it. You’ll need to be both senior advisor and a detailed implementer as required. You will deliver technology decisions, guided by an understanding of Digital Marketing knowledge, Pfizer Digital Strategy and how your areas of responsibility fit within them. Responsibilities break down further as:

  • Provide technical input and guidance to team members to assist in the creation of roadmaps maintained by Digital Solutions & Emerging Technologies (DSET) product owners.

  • Responsible for the creation of technical designs and implementation plans

  • Align architectural roadmaps with relevant stakeholders including BT management, other DSET teams, Global Business Intelligence and the relevant Support & Operations Teams.

  • Collaborate with Business Partners and the Global Program & Project Management team to define requirements for new systems.

  • Make decisions such as product and vendor selection using RFI and RFP processes, accounting for the strategic directions provided by department leadership

  • Provide for and be accountable for the financial and schedule accuracy of estimates provided for projects by members of the Architecture & Engineering Team.

  • Work with the infrastructure and shared service organizations to procure and manage stable application platforms.

  • Anticipate, oversee or influence an environment where continuous improvement and innovation are embedded in day-to-day operations.

  • Champion innovation.  Develop and leverage resources to implement innovative ideas/processes/ products across DSET and commercial Business Units, taking appropriate risks to achieve desired results.

  • Work with other teams to ensure project solutions align with product roadmaps, helping to develop an application strategy which provide long term value to the overall business and enable our business to reduce costs.

  • Achieve technical delivery cost savings targets through effective estimation, vendor selection and negotiation, and delivery efficiencies.

Basic Qualifications

  • Relevant experience as an information technology professional in roles such as a software developer, technical project manager, systems administrator, database administrator, systems engineer, computer engineer or support specialist.

  • Minimum of 9 years of experience with increasing responsibility designing, delivering, and maintaining large-scale, global systems.

Preferred Qualifications

As above and including Bachelor of Science degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Engineering, Technology Management or relevant disciplines.

Relevant Overall Experience:

  • Demonstrated  interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to establish relationships, influence outcomes, and deliver effective presentations to a variety of audiences. Ability to work with others in a constructive and collaborative manner

  • Ability to lead in a complex, matrix environment with geographically distributed and indirect reporting line resources.

  • Excellent skills in analysis, critical thinking and planning, oral and written communication, consensus building, facilitation, negotiation and the ability to readily learn a new business area.

  • Proven capability handling large scale, enterprise software requirements definition, designs and implementations in a global 24/7 environment.

  • Technology solutions delivery in a pharmaceutical or regulated environment a bonus.

Technical Team Leadership and Oversight

  • Ability to think critically; to recognize and anticipate a problem (technical, operational, process, organizational) and to identify and implement or communicate the best solution in a timely manner.

  • Ability to lead contract staff in the successful delivery of technology projects while maintaining Pfizer’s quality standards

  • Knowledge of Software Development Lifecycle management, including production system maintenance and operation

  • Team leadership and management

  • Building and implementing a global technology strategy that aligns to business priorities

  • Managing budgets and resources to meet goals across multiple projects

  • Sourcing model definition and effective execution

  • Vendor negotiations with citable impacts to strategic direction and in-line production products.

Estimation

  • Ability to take a systematic approach to estimation of technical tasks / epics / projects

  • Estimation of software systems

Architecture and Planning

  • Ability to listen to stakeholders, system and functional requirements and translate that into architecture planning documents and presentations that balance the needs of stakeholders and long-term sustainability.

  • Building and implementing a global technology strategy that aligns to business priorities

Software Development Experience

  • Ability to understand large scale system implementations in different technology focus areas.

  • Ability to evaluate technical decisions, communicate key technical principles and make recommendations on solutions.

  • High level of awareness of internal and external technology trends.

  • Knowledge of system integrations is desirable

  • Knowledge and experience with Mobile, Digital and New technologies

You will need to be familiar with several of the following technologies:

  • Marketo

  • Mulesoft

NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

Travel will be required as part of this role as it is a virtual position.  Expectations around travel will vary but you will need to be capable of travel within the region and to other regions.

Our business is a 7x24x365 endeavor.  This role may on occasion require physical or virtual participation on a weekend, holiday, or after normal business hours.
