Dir, Office of Clinical Trials (WCI)

JOB DESCRIPTION: Serves as the principal executive responsible for directing the Clinical Trials Office (CTO) of the Winship Cancer Institute (WCI). Accountable and responsible for successfully developing, promoting, implementing, and achieving WCI's strategic plan for clinical trials research. As an integral participant of the senior leadership team for research administration, ensures an environment that promotes quality research outcomes and facilitates new interdisciplinary research activities across disciplines as the WCI grows its patient accruals and clinical trials research awards and funding. Key responsibilities include strategic/operational planning; business/program development; financial management; ensuring proper clinical trial billings and collections in accordance with governmental regulations; and developing and ensuring conformance with clinical trial policies and procedures. Works collaboratively with the WCI Medical Director and the Executive Director of Clinical Research of the School of Medicine to develop and implement WCI's expanded role, to create and direct implementation of the Strategic Plan for WCI CTO and to identify and manage adequate financial and personnel resources to support the WCI CTO. Prepares and presents recommendations regarding the development of institutional policies and procedures on issues concerning clinical trial research administration, with a focus on the financial administration of clinical trials, compliance with Medicare rules, compliance with grant and sponsor requirements, development of appropriate billing processes, etc. Designs and implements systems to meet objectives of the CTO and its strategic and operational plans. Monitors infrastructure and evaluates metrics and outcomes to determine success of plans. Communicates across divisional and departmental boundaries as required to assess the needs of research personnel. Develops and presents reports and metrics to reflect clinical trial activity. Maintains complete responsibility of the day-to-day operations of all areas in the WCI CTO including responsibility for budget development and management, staffing requirements and new program developments. Directs the design and implementation of upgrades to the clinical trials information systems. Provides leadership and direction to improve the effectiveness of the quality assurance function of the CTO through enhanced training of clinical researchers and additional audits. Works collaboratively with other university departments/divisions, Emory Healthcare and other hospitals. Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A master's degree in business, finance, science or related field and ten years of professional business management experience including six years in a clinical or healthcare environment (preferably in an academic medical center). Documented successful research administration experience focused on managing a clinical trials function. Demonstrated leadership and budget management skills.
