SUMMARY

 

A Director of Business Development is responsible for NextGen Sciences activities and programs with designated key customers within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and academic channels.  The primary responsibility will be to present NGS capabilities to key decision makers within accounts based upon sales leads generated and prospecting.  A DBD will also coordinate proposals, assist in the negotiation contracts and service agreements and assure execution on the agreed upon deliverables.  The position will interact and coordinate strategies with all appropriate internal stakeholders.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

 

  • Achieve $3-5MM in new service revenue annually through meeting sales related metrics through the acquisition of new business and recognition of contracted revenue
  • Identify new opportunities, develop relationships, and execute agreements with assigned accounts based upon the suite of service offerings of NGS
  • Effectively manage sales region with a customer base of pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and academic institutions.  50-60% overnight travel required.
  • Ensure that all proposal/contract details, client meetings, RFP information is captured and maintained within ACT or designated CRM system
  • Team Leader for coordinating meetings with internal/external stakeholders/project teams within assigned accounts on account issues from contract development and pricing to project status reports
  • Identify, develop, and qualify new sales leads by phone and in person.  Progress leads through the sales process, including proposal development, contract negotiation, and execution of deliverables to client on time
  • Routine activities include attending identified trade shows, updating sales pipeline report, development and execution of key account plans, routine customer visits, maintenance of CRM database, and achieving individual sales plan

QUALIFICATIONS 

 

 

        Demonstrated negotiation skills

        Knowledge and relationships with key accounts

        Knowledge of the purchasing process of pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and academic accounts

        Experience managing sales process through ACT

        Understanding of the drug discovery and development process

        Excellent verbal and written communication skills

        Ability to rapidly assimilate complex, scientific information

        Ability to prioritize and manage to timelines

        Ability to cultivate spheres of influence

        Strong interpersonal and presentation skills

        Ability to multi-task

 

 

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

 

  • 5-10 years experience selling into the pharmaceutical industry
  • 5 years experience interacting with key academic institutions
  • 5 years sales experience in the CRO or related industry
  • BS or higher in a scientific area (Biochemistry, Cellular Biology, etc)
  • Hands-on protein lab experience desired but not required

 

SALARY RANGE:  100-110K, Commission (% of revenue booked), plus mileage, standard benefits, including health insurance and matching 401k, stock options after 1 year
