DESCRIPTION:


The National Headquarters of the American Lung Association is seeking a Director, Finance.  Ensure accuracy and timeliness of all field financial reporting and analysis.  Ensure systems provide for the reliable retrieval and analysis of field and National Headquarters finance information.  Manage the billing, accounts receivables and collection activities.  Develop and implement accounting and finance solutions to emerging field and national office policies and problems.  Support the nationwide analytical needs including detail analysis of revenue and field related programs and services.


 


RESPONSIBILITIES:


Full charge responsibility for the analysis and preparation of all nationwide interim and year-end financial reports.  Oversee the distribution of monthly and annual nationwide reports.  Produce, upon request, special in-depth analysis reports for leadership and field executives.  Review and analyze field association financial statements and 990’s and related supporting schedules.  Provide support and accounting/financial expertise in the process.  Prepare contract recommendations for field associations.  Develop and interpret financial reports and data to senior staff and volunteer leadership (Board) to assist in decision making processes.  Support the Chief Financial Officer in the design and development of periodic presentations and updates to leadership, committees and workgroups.  Provide timely, accurate and relevant information as requested on an ad-hoc basis.  Provide direction to field association executives and local directors to ensure successful coordination all required financial reporting and to foster sharing of best practices.  Periodically lead nationwide efforts that will include the Association CFOs in areas of standardization and improvements in reporting.  Responsible for the billing, accounts receivables and collections activities of the National Headquarters.  Design and implement accounting systems and procedures.  Collaborate with management at the national and local level to develop standardized best practices criteria and to conform to a uniform chart of accounts, financial statements and accounting systems and policies.  Identify problems with current system and make recommendations as necessary.  Implement MIP consolidation module to perform automatic consolidation of Association financial statements.  Ensure proper and consistent financial accounting techniques and policies are adopted by field association and used in operations, and that revenues are appropriately recorded and monies due to either the field offices or National Headquarters are recorded and/or paid.  Serve as primary liaison between the national headquarters and field associations to ensure that coordinated efforts result in consistent and efficient financial accounting.


 


QUALIFICATIONS:


Bachelor’s degree in accounting (CPA/MBA preferred).  Minimum of 7 - 10 years’ accounting/auditing experience.  At least three years of supervisory experience.  Knowledge of non-profit accounting and regulations.  Excellent written and oral communications skills.  Ability to interact effectively with senior management and volunteers.  Ability to identify problems and propose appropriate solutions.  Advanced computer skills in spreadsheets, databases, and word processing and presentation applications.  Ability to travel when necessary.
