An opportunity exists for an ambitious operating finance professional to be the LCMS Product Line finance leader. The LCMS Product Lines sell over $425M a year of scientific instruments, parts and service to pharmaceutical manufacturing, life sciences research and university customers. LCMS instruments are used for drug discovery and key life science academic research.
The LCMS Finance Director (FD) will be a business partner with the VP for the Life Sciences Mass Spec Product Line and the Director for the Liquid Chromatography Product Line. The FD will also report to the finance leader for Thermo’s Scientific Instruments Division (SID) and be a key member of the SID finance leadership team. The position is a senior management position with the expectation that the right candidate moves into an executive finance position. SID has 12 factories and 14 sales and service operations around the world. SID achieved revenue of $1.2B in 2006 and is very profitable.
The FD is responsible for the finance and accounting function for the entire San Jose Ca, Franklin Ma, Scotts Valley Ca, Bellefonte Pa, and Runcorn UK factories. A Financial and accounting staff with 10 positions reports to the FD. In addition, approx. 20% of the product lines’ revenue is shipped from our Bremen Germany factory. Also, most back office functions for the Madison site (including credit and collections) are supported by Thermo’s US financial shared services organization. The FD is also responsible for business support for the LCMS Product Lines worldwide.
The LSMS Product Lines are very profitable, growing businesses that is key to Thermo Fisher’s overall success. Therefore, this is a position with high visibility and tremendous promotional opportunity.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
• As a key member of the LCMS management team and business partner with the VP of Life Sciences Mass Spectrometry, you will provide financial leadership to grow the business and drive productivity.
• Lead the financial planning and reporting processes, including monthly closings, quarterly re-forecasts, and annual statements for all of LCMS sites.
• Responsible for timely and accurate (SarBox and GAAP) monthly close reporting. Ensure adherence to the Corporate Approval Authority Matrix and maintain key business controls.
• Lead all LCMS sites’ annual operating plan process as well as play a key role in the Division’s annual strategic planning process.
• Participate in process improvement and productivity projects, lean accounting initiatives which could include outsourcing and systems implementations.
• Drive continuous improvement and standardization in the finance area. Create business unit operating metrics and measure their performance to the established metrics.
• Develop the finance and accounting staff to improve accuracy and timeliness of data and improve the LCMS Product Lines’ financial performance.
• Develop finance, business and reporting processes in SAP that will be the standard for use across the corporation.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
• 10 + years of related experience in financial analysis, reporting, and accounting leadership for manufacturing, operations, and overall business environments within a large, professionally managed operating company.
• Minimum of 5 years in an independent controller role.
• Degree in Accounting or Finance; preferably MBA, CPA or CMA certification.
• Experience with a Tier I (preferably SAP) ERP system

• Strong team building skills and the proven ability to work with a diverse group of people.

• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• SAP experience and/or implementation a plus.
