My client, a specialty pharma company based in the Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas area, has a mission to provide innovative products that enhance quality of life by helping people see better.  They have more than 22,000 employees globally.  The company offers the widest spectrum of eye care products in surgical, pharmaceutical and vision care across 180 markets with operations in 75 countries.  For more than 65 years, the company has focused on helping people worldwide see better through their core competencies – research and development, manufacturing and sales.

I am currently seeking an Director of Global Competitive Intelligence for a new role in the company.  This is an opportunity to come on board and build out the CI function for the organization!

 

In this position, you will work across all business units, existing products, as well as pipeline.  This is a global position, however global experience is not required.  I will consider folks with experience in pharma, device or OTC for this great new role.

 

 

TITLE:                                   Director Global Competitive Intelligence

LOCATION:                          Fort Worth, TX

SALARY:                              Up to $130,000 - $155,000 base, plus bonus & equity

REPORTS TO:                    Director & Global Head, Marketing Science

 

 

To be accountable for and lead the Global Competitive Intelligence function across all three Global Business Franchises for Global Product Strategy and Commercialization (from Phase II to Loss of Exclusivity); to provide strategic direction, actionable intelligence and scenarios of competitors & competitive landscape to enhance company strategy; to drive integrated CI plans and recommendations to proactively address and solve business questions from the business franchises.

 

Strategy development

·        Develops and leads the Competitive Intelligence function within organization, working with key stakeholders to determine relevant intelligence needs..

·        Drives translation of competitive findings into business recommendations that deliver current and future business success for company. 

·        Serves as a thought leader for business franchise heads by identifying issues and opportunities and developing recommendations to the business franchises and R&D.

Operational delivery

·        Leads the execution of the total CI strategy across company.

·        Drives integrated CI plans and recommendations to address and solve business questions from business franchises.

·        Develops CI budget and ensures resource management meets targets agreed for the business franchises.

·        Responsible for the delivery of the total CI program, ensuring effective allocation of all CI resources.

·        Develops, leads, and facilitates competitive simulations and strategic workshops to pressure test organizations strategies, tactics and operations.

·        Administers formal protocols and policies for the collection, assessment, classification, storage, and dissemination of competitive information according to legal and ethical CI processes and recognized CI standards

Functional excellence

·        Demonstrates strong understanding of competitive intelligence and spearheads CI initiatives for multiple business franchises

·        Demonstrates CI excellence in selecting information and delivering against information needs as defined in Key Intelligence Topics (KITs)

·        Leads the development and implementation of innovative approaches and SOPs to improve the functioning of CI.

Business partnering

·        Ensures cross-functional stakeholder (Commercial, Development, Regulatory and Legal) alignment across company in support of CI initiatives.

People and organizational leadership

·        Leads the CI organization to achieve objectives and deliverables. Leads the coaching and development of individuals.

·        Hires & develops Senior CI Analyst(s).

·        Implements regular training programs for CI team and Marketing Science Associates to improve functional knowledge and core capabilities

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

 

·         Bachelor’s Degree is required.  Advanced business degree (MBA) highly preferred.

·         Minimum of 10 years pharmaceutical/device/OTC experience, to include 3-4 years of experience in Competitive Intelligence at a major global firm (pharmaceutical, consultancy, regulatory, clinical development, licensing, strategic marketing or portfolio management). 

·         Vendor CI experience preferred.

·         CI certification preferred.

·         Global experience is a plus, but not required.

·         High level of emotional intelligence.

·         Ability to build strategy for new CI function and sell its value internally

·         Ability to push back when needed.

·         Ability to serve as Thought Leader to cross-functional teams with respect to competitive strategy and anticipating competitive activities.

·         Strong quantitative and qualitative analysis and communication skills required.

·         Superior critical thinking, writing, presentation, and project management skills.

·         Effective in leading, motivating, and achieving goals through formal and informal channels.

·         Ability to effectively plan, prioritize, execute and follow-up in a timely manner and anticipate problems and roadblocks.

·         High personal integrity and ethics with uncompromising standards.

·         Must be comfortable with working with Area and Country Heads (since role is global, may require odd hours at times)

·         Fluency in both spoken and written English.
