Director, Global Mobility - MN - MINNETONKA, MN 55305

The Global Mobility Director is responsible for managing UnitedHealth Group's global mobility program. This includes overall oversight of the global mobility policies and processes.
In that role the candidate is responsible for working with the Human Capital Partner's (HCP), HR Shared Services, and the employees of the company required to undertake assignments outside of their home country and vendors supplying relocation, tax and legal services, that enables employees to live and work outside of their home country legally, administratively and fiscally responsibly in alignment with UnitedHealth Group philosophy and practices.
 
This position is also responsible for the development, implementation, operation and maintenance of global mobility policies and programs, including but not limited to: short term, long term and permanent relocation, and extended business travel. The role provides consulting and support to all UnitedHealth Group business segment(s) and works with the business segment(s) (HCP) to move their people in a cost effective manner, ensuring the employee(s) are prepared and set up for success in their roles upon arrival in the destination country. In addition, the role works with business leadership teams to forecast and plan for the future growth of global assignees.
 
Work to Be Performed
  1. Maintain knowledge of business units/segments strategic objectives including planned movements and support them to budget accordingly.

  2. Ensure compliance of global mobility policies and practices with all local and international regulations, polices and procedures including but not limited to work permits and visas, tax planning and equalization, and operation of shadow payrolls.

  3. Review and maintain global mobility policies, processes and procedures for short term, long term and permanent relocations, as well as extended business travelers;

  4. Establish and maintain structure to deliver the policy and processes including, but not limited to being the primary coordination for all phases of global relocation activities, vendor management of all global mobility vendors and creation of an operational mobility co-ordination function;

  5. Facilitate IA selection and assessment

  6. Primary liaison with businesses on policy selection and exceptions

  7. Primary liaison with other internal UHG stakeholders (payroll, benefits, corporate tax)

  8. Manage repatriation process and reintegration/retention

  9. Ownership of global compensation reporting and compliance

  10. Manage external vendors, set and monitor SLA's

  11. Provide supervision to the administration roles responsible for the day to day customer service to assignees and his/her family

  12. Create and manage the annual mobility budget.

  13. Perform necessary functions and as directed, any other duties commensurate with the post.


  • Bachelor degree in Human Resources or related business field required.

  • 8-10 years experience working in human resources in a large multi-national required. Technical expertise in the following: global mobility administration, tax administration and vendor management required.

  • Project management experience is required Previous consulting experience is preferred

  • Must have a good knowledge and understanding of current global mobility-related employment law or databases/networking to obtain information.  

  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

  • Ability to work effectively within and as part of teams across the organization and in different geographies.

  • Proven ability of quickly building relationships and gaining credibility with peers.

  • Experience working in a matrix environment required.

  • Strong project management, interpersonal, communication and organizational skills required.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of current global mobility practices is essential.

  • Experience of working in a multi-country environment would be an advantage.

  • Flexible approach - high level of numeracy and analytical skills, attention to detail.

  • Manage own development including identifying seminars and qualifications to enhance skills and experience within the role.

  • Anticipates customer needs and proactively develops solutions to meet them.
