RESPONSIBILITIES: Function as the principal HR resource, voice and clearinghouse for all HR-related activities required in supporting North America and associated Business Units. Be an involved partner in the establishment of the business Long Range Plan (LRP) strategies and objectives and to ensure that the region’s HR LRP is aligned to support both the Business Unit and Corporate HR LRPs. Research, identify, prioritize and execute Human Resources goals and objectives for the North America commercial business. Work with the Senior Management team to ensure HR goals support overall business objectives and strategy. Develop and execute a business plan which targets both short and long-term HR objectives, needs and issues. Take accountability for all action items relating to HR and manage cross-functional delivery and customer expectations. Researches, develops and executes an annual HR operating plan which incorporates innovative HR strategies designed to drive attainment of stated division objectives. Makes recommendations and demonstrates initiative on HR programs/processes that positively influence the Business Units’ development. Proactively identifies organizational issues and barriers impeding Business Unit and employee productivity. Consults with management on both practical and innovative solutions. Leverages opportunities to influence positive change in organizations supported. Drives the delivery of services, utilizing Global/North American HR team resources as appropriate in areas including but not limited to Compensation and Benefits, Employee Relations, Training and Development, Staffing and formulation and constant update of policies and procedures. Optimize HR resources through the sharing of best practices and co-ownership of regional projects within North America, partnering with Global Supply Chain and other regional leads. Partners with Business Unit finance agent to ensure budgetary adherence on HR-related transactions. Represent North America at Global HR projects/meetings to ensure that the needs of the region are clearly articulated and heard. Staffing – Recruit top talent for key managerial/leadership positions for the region. Employee relations/communication – Drive an integrated communication strategy to keep employees informed of corporate and regional business status and direction, not limited to employee rally, employee satisfaction survey, etc. Compensation and Benefits -Participate in compensation and benefits surveys where appropriate to ensure external equity and competitiveness. Keep abreast with market practices to ensure they are current, relevant and in line with Timberland corporate philosophy. Performance Management - Deploy global performance management and common review programs. Conduct training, track completion rate and ensure performance objectives are in place. Succession Planning - Develop/build over time bench strength for North America to provide for sound succession planning, raise skills and knowledge and enhance levels of performance. Training and Development - Conduct training needs analysis. Facilitate training and coaching of managers. Coordinate global/regional/local training programs. Research and source for local program where needed. Policies and Procedures - Be the custodian of policies and procedures in the office and ensure compliance.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, with 8 - 10 years in HR generalist background, preferably with a U.S. multi-national organization. Excellent communication, leadership and organization skills. Strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities with the ability to think logically and strategically. Willing to be both decisive and controversial. Demonstrable experience and role modeling in managing conflict. Ability to work independently and is willing to be hands-on. Must be adept at handling multiple priorities and time sensitivities in a fast-paced environment. Computer proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and HRIS software required.
