
Director, Infrastructure and Network Operations

The Director, Infrastructure and Network Operations is responsible for providing both technical and managerial leadership in day to day efficient operation of WAN, firewall, security, telephony, telecommunications, and computing infrastructure globally.
This is a hands-on technical management position with a full range of responsibilities including all aspects of Computing Infrastructure and Network Operations planning, implementation, coordination and management of projects and people.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Lead Global Infrastructure and Network Operations team(s), plan projects, and organize resources.
• Manage operations staff, including recruitment, supervision, scheduling, development, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions. Measure and report progress against key deliverables and business objectives.
• Establish and maintain regular written and in-person communications with the organization's executives, department heads, and end users regarding pertinent IT activities.
• Develop and maintain long term strategy roadmaps in conformance with overall Infrastructure Architecture and Strategy to deliver end-to-end solutions. Provide input on multi-year development roadmaps of other architectures, task definition, assignments and scheduling.
• Work with business and product leaders to understand business requirements and help them understand how technology tradeoffs influence strategy.
• Develop business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for IT spending and initiatives. Conduct research, feasibility studies and testing and remain current with the latest technologies and solutions in support of procurement efforts.
• Develop and implement all functional policies and procedures, including those for architecture, standards, purchasing, and service provisioning. Approve purchase of equipment and supplies and meet operational requirements of the business.
• Develop DR/BC plans, policies, and procedures. Oversee testing of those procedures Practice asset management for hardware, software, and equipment. Incorporate security requirements into Network architecture.
• Manage the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade, and support/optimal operation of computing and telecommunications equipment, including upgrades for network devices.
• Analyze existing operations and make recommendations for the improvement and growth of the network infrastructure. Oversee all reports and documentation related to network operations.
• Assist in the provisioning and execution of end-user services, including help desk and technical support services.
• Manage and ensure global effectiveness of data and voice throughput, utilizing traffic shaping, bandwidth management, and efficient design of an MPLS backbone
• Perform other tasks and responsibilities as requested
Required Knowledge / Experience:
• Bachelor's degree in the field of computer science or information systems with 15+ years of experience in Development and Maintenance of infrastructure and network systems with minimum of 7+ years Server Operations, Experience in large enterprise environment, preferably in a large Product development/manufacturing environment. Service Delivery experience is highly desired.
• Experience in Data Center Consolidation and Server Virtualization implementation
• Large scale storage experience (NAS / SAN, HSM, backups).
• Must be proficient with LAN design/implementation, upgrades, WAN technologies with an emphasis on MPLS and VPNs, routing. Strong technical knowledge of Cisco switches, routers, concentrators and firewalls and centralized management of those devices and able to perform DNS, WINS, and DHCP changes and additions.
• Demonstrated ability to design and integrate multiple platforms, operating systems and protocols including Intel, HP-UX, Linux, Voice Over IP, AD, LAN and WAN networking environments, both for SNA and TCP-IP applications.
• Ability to work with application (Oracle ERP and Lotus Notes, Enterprise Business Applications) development teams to identify and mitigate impacts of application changes, upgrade and implementations.
• Ability to work comfortably in highly varying levels of abstraction from business strategy to product strategy to high level technical design to detailed technical design to implementation.
• CISSP, Sun, IBM, MCSE, Oracle or other platform, network/security certification. Knowledgeable regarding the configuring or managing of Windows and Linux DNS
• Excellent communications skills and the ability to effectively communicate findings both written and orally using layman terms and technical terms
• Ability to travel and manage over 20-30 persons
• Knowledge ITIL or Cobit framework for IT support and services is desirable
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Periodic on-call availability and flexible work hours based upon project deliverables
• Lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects, such as routers, firewalls, and computers
