ROLE SUMMARY

Pfizer Cancer Immunology Discovery (CID) is the South San Francisco unit within the Oncology division of Pfizer Worldwide Research & Development. CID is dedicated to developing new protein therapeutics to improve human life by redirecting the immune system against cancer. CID researchers apply the latest scientific knowledge and novel approaches to discover truly innovative Immuno-Oncology therapeutics. Cooperation and support for a high level of scientific freedom is encouraged in this biotech-like environment to find the best answers to biological questions, with the benefit of large pharma resources.

We are seeking to hire the head of our Leukocyte Signaling group. The candidate should be a highly motivated, creative and accomplished scientist with demonstrated expertise in investigating signaling pathways in immune cells. Reporting to the CSO, this position is responsible for directing a team of scientists to support in vitro pre-clinical immuno-oncology activities to determine the MOA of large and small molecule drug candidates. Successful development and validation of novel therapeutics will require close collaboration with a variety of inter-disciplinary colleagues including biologists, clinicians, protein engineers, and target identification and biomarker researchers.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Contribute to overall strategy for cancer immunology at CID and defining a strategy for effecting anti-tumor immunity at the molecular level.
  • Supervise and mentor a team committed to delivering IND-enabling packages over the next 2-4 years
  • Collaborate with immuno-oncology, protein engineering, computational biology, and clinical development groups to pursue the most promising drug candidates through clinical trials.
  • Participate in internal and external collaborations on novel IO targets.
  • Contribute to scientific advancements in the field as a thought leader and spokesperson for Pfizer IO molecular mechanisms
  • Contribute to a culture that embraces continuous learning, development, and collaboration

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS 

  • PhD with 10-15 years post-doctoral training with significant relevant experience in signal transduction/biochemistry/pharmacology
  • Experience managing a large team
  • Knowledge of cellular and molecular immunology
  • Ability to design and supervise all aspects of dissecting molecular mechanisms of signal transduction in immune cells
  • Track record of publications and innovation
  • Ability to design and deliver novel solutions to challenging problems
  • Pro-active attitude and strong desire to discover novel biology and potential new drugs
  • Strong oral presentation and communication skills

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to perform complex data analysis
  • Ability to analyze and interpret published work in the context of new and ongoing discovery activities

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Familiarity with leukocyte signalling pathways
  • Experience in cancer biology and/or immunology
  • Industry experience, including regulatory agency interaction is highly desired, including experience of target validation and candidate selection
