Director, Marketing Professional Communications

Responsiblities:

The individual will report to the Senior Director, US Marketing and work with all members of the brand team, leading and/or participating on sub-teams designed to maximize contributions for Alexion. This person is accountable for developing and executing brand strategy and tactics to ensure all brand goals and objectives are obtained.

  • Responsible for leading and directing cross-functional team members (i.e. Medical, Scientific Communications, Agency, PR, Operations, E-Business, etc.) in the development of strategic and operational plans.
  • Responsible for KOL development activities including global, national and regional thought leaders
  • Work with members of the US Marketing team on Healthcare Professional activities for PNH and SOLIRIS education including the development of promotional concepts, messaging and implementation
  • Works with Scientific Communications and Clinical to drive execution of commercial objectives through publication analysis/planning to meet both short term and long term business objectives
  • Manage Web/E-Business strategic planning and manage project/program implementation
  • Responsible for leading and directing cross-functional team members (i.e. Medical, Regulatory, Promotion, Agency, PR, Operations, etc.) in the development of strategic and operational plans
  • Utilizes strong communication skills to effectively communicate the marketing plan to the sales organization and international marketing partners
  • Participates in the development and management of key customer and thought leader relationships
  • Leadership of professional education projects i.e. Advisory Board Meetings
  • As product champion, surfaces issues and prepares Senior Director for discussions with senior management
  • Uses organizational, leadership and project management skills to manage effective implementation of cross-functional operating/tactical plan
  • Develop and manage budgets
  • Manage and deliver projects on time and within budget
  • Compliance with Alexion internal processes regarding legal, regulatory and financial policies and procedures
Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, MBA preferred Experience
  • Minimum of 4-7 years of pharmaceutical/medical industry experience with: a) 4 years product marketing or marketing-related experience (e.g. marketing communications, product strategist), and b) 2 year direct pharmaceutical/medical sales experience preferred
  • Experience in the oncology therapeutic area and/or orphan drug experience preferred
  • Comprehensive understanding of pharmaceutical product planning and execution including product marketing and sales
  • Ability to quickly understand all clinical data / publications to support business objectives
  • Comprehensive understanding of the medical therapeutic area and use of company products
  • Comprehensive understanding of legal and regulatory issues impacting product marketing
  • Demonstrated comprehensive understanding of the dynamics driving the US health care
  • Leadership skills, including the ability to solve problems that include many decision makers and carry several options for solutions, as well as persuasive written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to interact widely and effectively within the company (i.e., on an interdepartmental and interdisciplinary basis)
  • Ability to develop solutions to complex problems requiring the use of ingenuity and creativity; to formulate approaches and strategies which may fall outside of historical norms
  • Experience in facilitation, mentoring/development
  • Proven teamwork and collaboration skills
