Director, Safety Health and Environmental Assurance

��I.�������� Job Purpose


Assure North American (NA) Executive Management that business units (BUs) and facilities have comprehensive programs and procedures to meet regulatory compliance requirements.� Inform management of SHE liabilities.�



  1. Lead NA SHE audit program.�

  2. Monitor Company and regulatory SHE requirements. Communicate and ensure implementation.� Provide regulatory expertise.

  3. Lead NA SHE Council.

  4. Provide leadership and technical expertise to BUs in the areas of occupational safety, industrial hygiene, product safety, environmental protection and transportation.

  5. Work closely with Risk Management regarding insurance programs.

  6. Support to Legal Department regarding SHE issues.�

III.�������� Principal Accountabilities��


1.����� Lead NA SHE audit program.��



  • Establish audit schedule.

  • Develop auditing and training tools.

  • Conduct audits.

  • Report Findings to Henkel Executive Management, HOA� Law Department and BU management.

  • Approve corrective action plans and track implementation of corrective actions.

  • Coordinate program global SHE auditing program.��


2.����� Monitor Company and regulatory SHE requirements. Communicate and ensure implementation.� Provide regulatory expertise.��



  • Identify regulatory and Company SHE requirements.

  • Manage program to communicate new and existing SHE regulatory compliance requirements and Henkel SHE Standards to SHE professionals and Executive management.

  • Coordinate with Henkel regional and global SHE professionals to ensure that regional programs and practices are consistent with broader Henkel strategies and regulatory requirements. Contribute to the development of Henkel Global SHE polices, procedures and best practices.


3.����� Lead NA SHE Council.��



  • Coordinate SHE activities among NA BU's to ensure consistent understanding of requirements and consistent implementation of regulatory requirements

  • Leverage resources by sharing best practices, opportunities and SHE tools/training.

  • Foster the development of a collaborative network among BU SHE leaders.

  • Provide cross-BU learning opportunities.��


?4.����� Provide technical expertise to Business Units in the areas of occupational safety, industrial hygiene, product safety, environmental protection and transportation.��



  • Provide leadership and technical expertise for safety programs, including but not limited to, basic life safety procedures, process safety, contractor safety, and behavior-based safety initiatives.

  • Coordinate outsourced industrial hygiene. Provide leadership and technical expertise for industrial hygiene programs. Coordinate occupational health programs (including policies and procedures related to medical monitoring) with Henkel Legal and Human Resources departments.

  • Provide leadership and technical expertise for environmental programs, including but not limited to, pollution prevention, emissions and waste reduction, resource conservation and regulatory reporting.

  • Ensure regional emergency preparedness for all facilities

  • Support Company Sustainability programs.


3.����� Work closely with Risk Management regarding insurance programs


4.����� Support to Legal Department regarding SHE issues.��



  • Develop Henkel responses to regulatory enforcement issues and SHE claims/lawsuits including, but not limited to, direct negotiations with agency representatives, oversight of external legal counsel, and management of technical consultants.

  • Manage legacy remediation projects.

  • Conduct SHE due diligence (Site and product safety area).


Education & Professional Requirements


Required



  • B.S. in technical field, preferably in Engineering (Chemical, Process or Environmental) or Occupational Safety. Masters Degree preferred.

  • Safety profession certifications or similar credentials (CSP/CIH or equivalent).

  • Environmental profession certifications (QEP, CPEA, CHMM or equivalent).

  • Minimum 7 years experience in a SHE related leadership role (operations, loss control, SHE or equivalent) in the chemical, pharmaceutical or consumer products field.

  • Minimum 5 years experience conducting SHE audits.

  • Practical experience and competence in the application of SHE legal requirements and national standards.

  • Practical experience in process safety (HAZOPs, fire & explosion protection), environmental permitting (air, waste, wastewater), product safety, and Behavior Based Safety.�


Strongly Preferred



  • Experience managing corporate SHE audit program

  • Practical experience in product safety

  • Practical experience in SHE due diligence

  • Practical experience in site remediation

  • Staff management experience�


Physical Requirements�



  • Willing to travel 50% - 75% of time
