Job Title: -- Director, Safety


Job Summary: -- Provide safety and health thought leadership and oversight at multiple EMCOR companies as assigned.  Works with operating company leadership to improve safety and operational performance. Ensures that applicable internal policies are known and followed and that EMCOR and the assigned operating companies are in compliance with local, state, and federal workplace and environmental regulations.


 May provide leadership as assigned in other areas such as: fleet management, environmental requirements, business continuity planning, development of local safety personnel, and operational process improvement etc.  This position is flexibly located so no relocation is required.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities: -- 



  • Supports the development, planning, and implementation of Safety and environmental policies and procedures for assigned companies

  • Monitors processes, procedures, and operating conditions in the workplace

  • Works with company leaders to develop and implement strategies to avoid hazards

  • Ensures that the company and assigned operating companies are in compliance with local, state, and federal workplace environmental regulations

  • Monitors, reviews and edits safety documentation and required recordkeeping

  • Supports education programs for new and current employees as needed on such topics as hazardous material safety, industrial hygiene, recordkeeping, electrical safety, workplace safety and emergency response procedures, etc. May create or deliver education programs.

  • Assists operating company Safety Directors with development and implementation of safety action plans

  • Monitors employee exposure to hazards and makes recommendations for prevention to operating company management

  • Assists assigned operating companies with the investigation of any serious accident involving hazardous materials, equipment or employee injury

  • Monitors and assist with the implementation of EMCOR Safety Initiatives

  • Works with assigned companies for all matters related to the SQM Team

    • Reviews all OSHA Recordable Incident Reports from assigned companies

    • Insures root causes are identified and proper corrective actions are applied

    • Reports visit activity and recommended actions



  • Travel: As required, but may be as much as 60 to 80%


Qualifications: -- 



  • B.A. / B.S. or equivalent trade experience required

  • Licensed and experienced electrician is highly desired

  • Leadership experience in Mechanical or Electrical construction, Mobile Mechanical Services, Industrial Maintenance or site based Facilities Services

  • Ten years minimum experience in the area of environmental health and safety

  • Ability to understand business processes

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • High-level knowledge of local, state and federal workplace environmental regulations. Knowledge and/or experience with Cal-OSHA is highly desired

  • Excellent management, communication, writing, and organizational skills

  • Knowledge of computer based safety software


Work Environment and Physical Demands
General office, field construction or industrial environment.  Considerable stress may occur at times.  May involve exposure to work hazards.  Job requires extensive walking, climbing and standing.
