DescriptionUnder general guidance, manages the staff and operations of employee and customer safety and security functions for all Infirmary sites.
-Reiews existing, establishes new and abandons unnecessary policies, procedures and practices of the Security, and parking departments based on laws, industry standards and experience relating to the operation of a hospital, research and public facility.  Ensures strict adherence to the Joint Commission for Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) established framework for an Environment of Care,
-Shall be on permanent on-call status for emergency matters and designate coverage responsibility to the Director of Facility Services when necessary.  Carry departmental beeper to address situations requiring management expertise.
-Establishes methods to handle customer service inquires through the security staff and parking attendants/valets.  Establish means to handle inquiries, resources to fulfill the needs and measures to monitor effectivness.
-Establishes methods to secure high profile individuals ("VIP" or celebrity).  Methods for cooperative collaboration must be initiated and supported with agencies such as the Secret Service, FBI, State Department, US Marshals and other appropriately authorized resource.
-Provides for or conducts periodic training in areas of expertise to the security staff and the population of the Infirmary and its multiple sites.  Ensures that all exernal requirements relating to training records are met; monitors systems to tract training for effectiveness of programs; provides and ad hoc training specifically designed to meet desired end results requested or deemed necessary.
-Oversee operation of the Infirmary leased parking facilities and related parking program including contracted operations.  maintain a cost effective parking program for clients (patients and visitors) employees and physicians.  Meets regulatory requirements to limit private automobile use as a commuter mode by providing information about and assess to commuter programs focused on alternatives to driving into Boston.  Reviews and negotiates contracts for parking access, and establishes access policies and rates based on sound fiscal estimates.  Establishes controls to ensure integrity of cash business.  Monitors and maintains parking lots, which are under Infirmary control, in safe condition
-Prepares and monitors divisional capital, espense and slary budgets; seeks out ways to increase revenues and decrease expenses.  Provides financial/statistical data relating to overall operations.
-Participates in quality improvement activities to ensure security and safety.
RequirementsBachelor's degree required with a minimum 7 years work experience in a security and/or safety related role.
 Working knowledge of establishing, teaching and reporting on quality improvement programs utilizing Joint Commission and EOC Accreditation Standards.
Previous experience with Joint Commission surveys, and interfacing with local, state and governmental agencies preferred.  Must meet requirements under Massachusetts stat laws Chapter 22C, section 63. Knowledge of healthcare practices and risk including access control and key systems.  Ability to teach crime prevention programs.
