About the Job

In partnership with the Chief Scientific Officer for Viral Vaccines (CSO), integrate cutting edge influenza vaccine science with deep, working knowledge of the current influenza vaccine seasonal update and pandemic response systems to deliver a game-changing influenza vaccine with consistently superior efficacy.  The vaccine candidate must also be practical for timely development, efficient production, reliable strain change, and global implementation.  The role will involve both direct management of vaccine science and extensive cross-functional matrix leadership to advance the vaccine candidate through research and development.  Will require global scientific alliance management with external parties to ensure that the vaccine is built from best available technologies and can be integrated into the global influenza vaccine system.  With the evolution of the vaccine portfolio, leadership of other future vaccine research and development programs likely.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

With the CSO, develop strategy for the influenza vaccine program and other future vaccine programs Lead scientists on the Vaccines Research influenza project team, including direct reports and non-reports, reviewing all experimental designs and data Represent Research on the cross-functional Influenza Vaccine Program Team as Research Lead, coordinating with non-Research functions in advancing the vaccine through developmental stage gates. Take a key role in communication about the influenza vaccine program in internal Pfizer documents and external patent applications, regulatory submissions, scientific papers, and other communications. Serve as a primary scientific liaison with external alliance partners for influenza vaccines, including collaborating companies, government agencies and non-governmental organizations. Participate in the management of the Viral Vaccines group, including the supervision of junior colleagues, the group budget, laboratories, and compliance.

QUALIFICATIONS

MD or a PhD in virology or a related field. >15-years experience in virology, vaccinology and immunology, with basic scientific expertise in influenza and practical knowledge of global flu vaccine surveillance, recommendation, reagent generation, and regulatory systems >5 years industry experience in pre-clinical and clinical vaccine development with working knowledge of both scientific and non-scientific aspects of vaccine development Knowledge of the viral vaccine scientific, clinical and competitive landscape with particular emphasis on influenza vaccines.

Strong abilities in scientific analysis, cross-functional collaboration, people management, scientific writing, and public speaking required.
