The director of application development will be responsible for the timely and efficient delivery of application development projects. In this role responsibility will include development teams at multiple locations, and outsourcing, He / she will define, implement and manage a strong software development process, and will drive the continuous improvement of software engineering at VMS.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in hands-on software development, with extensive experience in managing multiple, large, fast moving software development projects. In-depth knowledge of software development management, quality assurance and outsourcing is required. The creation and successful management of an offshore development team is a pre-requisite.
A strong hands-on approach to leading, guiding, directing application development teams is preferred.
· Delivering software as a service (SAAS)
· Delivering leading edge web technology solutions
· Total responsibility for delivering projects on time, within budget, and within quality parameters set
· Establishing / defining a robust SW dev process
· Establish a world class outsourcing discipline at VMS (MUST be a believer in outsourcing).
· Detailed, results driven business oriented person
· Experience in delivering an enterprise SOA architecture and platform
· Intimate knowledge of Internet and intranet technologies, web 2.0 technologies, and the use of open source technology.
· Extensive knowledge of the Web 2.0 environment
· One of the primary members responsible for providing technical vision, leadership, management and long-term direction for all aspects of the software development organization and product development. He will also work closely with clients to answer and solve the most complex technical issues.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
· Meticulous, detailed resource and application development management
· A career path that includes extensive hands-on software development experience in a Java, Oracle, and Open Source environment
· Extensive knowledge of SOA, the Internet and Internet related technology
· Consistent execution of software development projects
· Building a world class team of software engineers.
· Deliver optimal business value.
· Experience delivering Saas a big plus.
Qualifications
· 4 year degree in Business, Math or Computer Science is required, and an advanced degree specific to software development will be a major plus.
· A minimum of 8 -10 years of software development and managing software development, with at least 5 years managing software development teams.
· PMI qualification and / or a black belt in agile development practices
Skill/Knowledge:
· Exceptional software development management skills
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
· Proven track record of delivering enterprise platforms / solutions.
· An outstanding track record of building and creating world class development teams.
· At least 5 years of experience with Java/ J2ee, Tomcat, Hibernate and Spring desired. Experience with Groovy on Grails a plus.
· Strong working knowledge of Oracle 10G and MySQL desired
