LOCATION: Department of Juvenile Services, Office of Professional Services, 120 West Fayette Street, Baltimore, MD 21202
DUTIES: The Director of Behavioral Health provides leadership for all mental health and substance abuse personnel, programs and activities statewide. This position is responsible for mental health/substance abuse policy development and implementation, and for ensuring the quality of, and consistent implementation of, the state-wide continuum of DJS behavioral health services for children and adolescents who are under the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Services (DJS). This includes providing oversight and direction for a variety of mental health/substance diagnostic and assessment services, as well as the delivery of services to youth; supervising and instructing professional and non-professional personnel in the theories, methods, practices and techniques; participating in interdisciplinary and interdepartmental meetings to discuss and evaluate programs related to the confinement, adjustment and rehabilitation of juveniles; consulting agency staff, community groups, families and other agencies and organizations on programs designed to treat mental health/substance abuse issues; and developing mental health/substance abuse prevention services. This position is charged with assuring that best practice mental health/substance abuse services are delivered to the youth in DJS' care.
EDUCATION: Master's or Doctoral level degree in behavioral health.
EXPERIENCE: Eight years of experience rendering behavioral health services, including 5 years of progressive experience in managing and directing programs and/or systems of care. Experience working collaboratively across public and private agencies, as well as experience with the Maryland Public Mental Health System. Candidates must also have experience using co-occurring mental health and substance abuse best practices in professionally competent ways. Experience working with children and adolescents is preferred.
LICENSING: Licensed by the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Psychologists as a Psychologist. Licensed by the Maryland STate Board of Social Work Examiners as a Certified Social Worker - Clinical (LCSW-C); or Licensed by the Maryland State Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists as a Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC).
