About the Job

Director of Engineering---A Career Opportunity

Having spent the last 21 years of my career for this very successful, high tech designer and manufacturer of sophisticated miniature electro/mechanical aerospace products,  I have announced my intention to retire as Director of Engineering.  I have been asked to remain involved with the company and I am pleased to do so.  My new role will be to help my replacement to perform specific assignments and to mentor individuals in various departments within the company.

My time here has been very rewarding and fulfilling as we have achieved tremendous growth in products offered, development of new technology, and significant growth to both top and bottom lines of sales and profitability. Sales ending 2009 are expected to be in excess of $110 million.  I believe my retirement offers a tremendous career opportunity for an aspiring, competent and capable individual.  Here’s why:

1.       Our products are considered the product of choice by the most sophisticated aerospace and   defense customers in the world.

2.      Our top line revenue growth and bottom line profitability has and likely will continue to grow in the high single to low double digits.

3.      We have been very successful designing the latest in MEMS technology into an increasing number of our products.

4.      Millions are invested annually by the company in R&D to assure we retain our status as product of choice.

5.      We have a diverse portfolio with over 250 products that are sold in 28 countries around the world.

6.      We have been in this and related businesses for over 50 years.

The Ideal Candidate

My ideal replacement possess a blend of education, technical knowledge, management expertise and  personality characteristics.  You have bachelors and/or masters degrees in electrical or mechanical engineering. A masters in engineering management or an MBA is highly desirable.  You have at least 15 years of progressive experience in engineering development and are an engineering manager in a larger organization or director in a smaller organization.  You have experience or familiarity with MEMS technology and have worked with miniature electro/mechanical aerospace instruments, assemblies and systems.  You have knowledge of products and their application, and ideally, have experience working with inertial measurement systems, accelerometers and gyros.

You have broad capability/knowledge in mechanical, electrical, software and test elements, and have worked closely with aerospace and defense contractors and first and second tier companies such as Raytheon, Lockheed, L-3, Honeywell, Goodrich and Rockwell.  You are proficient in the use of Microsoft Project, Excel and Power Point, have good communication and presentation skills, including the preparation of Technical Reports and Proposals, and associated technical and cost planning.  Overall you are able to achieve high levels of performance from yourself and your department.

About The Job

In the big picture you will provide the engineering department with advice, guidance and direction on a day to day basis.  You will generate and manage budgets, cost and schedule for design and development projects; formulate, recommend and direct engineering policies and technical work assignments; lead and participate in preparation of proposals; and direct all engineering resources to achieve department and company objectives.  You will mentor and develop your engineering team and drive development and delivery of state of the art products for military and commercial applications throughout the world.

As Director of Engineering, you will be the chief technologist, developing strategic and tactical plans to assure we are successful in achieving long term goals for growth and profitability.  You will be responsible for capital projects, budgets and manpower planning, proposal management, statements of work, configuration management and for resolving manufacturing problems expediently.  You will be responsible to continuously assess existing product lines to meet new and existing customer needs, and to improve the performance and cost effectiveness of existing products.

About the Company…

We are a world leader in the design, development and manufacture of highly sophisticated miniature, electro/mechanical sensors, assemblies and systems.  Our business does well in any financial environment with sustainable growth projected.  The business is solid and predictable and we have concluded that now is the right time to implement strategic initiatives to position the company for future growth and profitability well in excess of current levels.  We invest millions each year in research and development, have great manufacturing capability at significantly increasing revenue levels and are considered by most to have the product of choice in our marketplace. Our product offering consists of 250 specific products that are grouped into 12 product families.  These products are sold in 28 different countries around the world.
