Director of Engineering, Search Intelligence
About the Job
Description
Director of Engineering, Search Intelligence
AT&T Interactive connects consumers and advertisers across multiple digital platforms – online, mobile and even TV. You can help create and support exciting new products and services for our growing portfolio of brands including YELLOWPAGES.COM, the most preferred Internet Yellow Pages in the U.S., YPmobile, AnyWho and Keen. We also develop the technology behind Ingenio Pay Per Call. AT&T Interactive is a wholly owned subsidiary of AT&T.
Can you manage a team of incredibly smart engineers, mentor them through challenging development on high-availability systems, guide them through implementation of cutting edge search systems, and provide excellent organizational support for them within a fast-paced division of a major corporation? Do you enjoy balancing priorities and capacity to really get things done? Do you like to think on your feet, and adapt quickly? How about working with developers from varying backgrounds, tackling hard problems in natural language processing, system scaling and performance, and machine learning?
If this sounds like you, we'd love to talk to you at AT&T Interactive (ATTi), or more specifically, ATTi Search Intelligence - home of ATTi's service tier, natural language processing and machine learning application development. We are driving innovation in the local search space, and we are looking for an excellent Director of Engineering, Search Intelligence to join our team in our Glendale office.
Managing the Search Intelligence team requires intelligence, wit, an appreciation for metrics, and a good amount of experience in managing concurrent projects with multiple external dependencies. Experience in agile-type environments would be beneficial, though no strict agile methodology is espoused here - but we love focused sprints of work, adapting quickly as requirements change, communicating information outward effectively, and learning from each iteration, so if you're "agile" in that way, we'd love it.
While we're not tool/language-centric (it really matters more that you think well in the domain, and can solve problems effectively), we do use Ruby (and Rails, Sinatra, etc), Hadoop, and a bit of Java (Solr/Lucene) in production, so it would be ideal to have some background in these areas. We're constantly looking at new tools and techniques to solve our challenging problems, as well, so being creative and a quick learner is important!

- Engage in hands-on development work as required and when appropriate based on team size, project complexity and leadership responsibilities.
- Work closely with analysts, developers, QA and project managers to ensure development processes, performance and commitments meet or exceed internal and external requirements.
- Lead staff in all aspects of software development responsibility and to overcome barriers and embody a culture of passionate technical excellence.
