Director of Field Operation - Construction

About the Job

Title:   Field Operations Director

 

 

Director of Field Operations is a leader within this growing company.  The primary function of this position is to provide oversight to all field operations, and general management and direction of field personnel.  The Director will report to the Chief Operations Officer and ensure that all resources of the company are managed and coordinated in an efficient and professional manner on all projects, to perform work to meet our contractual obligations and our clients’ goals.  The following is an overview of the required background and knowledge as well as the major roles and responsibilities for this position:

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

·         10-15 years experience in project/construction management of commercial and/or public facilities.

·        5 years minimum experience in educational facility design and construction.

·         BS or BA in architecture, engineering, urban planning, construction management or a closely related field.

·       Knowledge of design and construction means and methods, all construction types

·         Knowledge of the UBC and CBC

·         Knowledge of the Public Contracts Code

·         Knowledge of State school programs and agencies, K-12, Community College, CSU and UC

·         Knowledge of DSA process and procedures

·        Technical and organizational knowledge/skills

·     Proficiency in MS Word & MS Excel

·        Skill in creating & reviewing CPM scheduling, including MS Project and/or P3

·     Familiarity with project management systems and software

·     Proficiency in technical writing

·     Team-building and leadership skills

·     Knowledge-based negotiation skills

RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will report directly to the Chief Operations Officer and will act in the role of connecting the core values, company vision, and the established operational standards with the actual practice of our field personnel.  Specific major areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:

·          Traveling to offices and projects sites to ensure the adherence of company performance standards and policies

·          Providing guidance and assistance to the field personnel as required to ensure effective completion of our contractual duties and non-contractual pledges to our clients

·          Evaluating the consulting, material and systems requirements of field personnel, and providing for augmentation as required for effective services

·          Assisting with the implementation of training of  field personnel in the Operations Manual, and review compliance with the basic duties the manual requires

·          Assisting with the evaluation of outside training, seminars, conferences, and other educational opportunities for personnel, and recommendations for individual and group attendance to these opportunities

·          Assisting in the recruitment of field personnel, including setting of position requirements, interviews, and employment negotiations

·          Collaborating with the Chief Operations Officer in the regular review and editing of the operational standards

·          Providing employee evaluations for all Senior Project Managers, and ensuring that the site managers provide employee evaluations for all other field employees

·          Recommending personnel actions to the Chief Operations Officer including added or reduced personnel, terminations and/or discipline.

·          Assisting in business development activities as required.

·          Implementing the firm’s quality assurance/control standards,

·         Implementing standard project set-up procedures including technology requirements in coordination with the Technology Manager

·          Monitoring the performance of the project team to ensure projects are within budget and schedule, implement solutions, as required with Chief Operations Officer
