Job Summary:
Provide system-wide leadership in K-8 reading/English language arts curriculum, instruction, assessment and professional development to support and coach Baltimore City Public Schools’ (City Schools) senior leadership, principals and literacy staff in the work of implementing the K-8 Maryland Voluntary State Curriculum (VSC)/core learning goals (CLG). Develops and implements district literacy objectives through Baltimore City Public Schools Master Plan by supporting areas and schools in using literacy as instructional foci to drive changes in classroom practices, examine student performance and school performance, align the use of current resources to the instructional focus, set performance benchmarks, and design a professional development plan to meet these benchmarks.
Qualified applicants must have the following minimum qualifications:
Ø Master’s degree in English, reading, education, or a related field including coursework in literacy and graduate studies in administration and supervision
Ø Eligible for Maryland State Department of Education Advanced Professional Certificate with endorsements in English or reading, and Administrator I
Ø Three years supervisory/administrative/leadership experience in an educational setting
Ø Thorough knowledge of Pre-K-8 instructional continuums and knowledge of current theories of curriculum instruction and assessment
Ø Experience leading systemic literacy professional development including instructional coaching
Ø Thorough knowledge of research-based school improvement designs and current issues facing urban public education
Ø Experience in the utilization of differentiated instruction
Ø Thorough knowledge of governmental mandates impacting education
Ø Proven organizational, management, leadership, and supervisory skills
Ø Interpersonal skills that ensure effective team building
Ø Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability make effective presentations to diverse audiences
Ø Proficient in the knowledge and use of technical computer applications, including Microsoft Office
