Director of Logistics

About the Job

The Director of Logistics will be responsible for leading the Human Touch distribution network, achieving logistics KPIs, managing finished goods deployment, reducing distribution and working capital costs, developing customer-centric solutions and providing strategic and tactical direction for all distribution and logistics operations.  This role is responsible for cost, quality, service and “people” performance for company-owned and 3PL distribution centers.  The director will lead a team of direct and indirect reports in working with internal and external colleagues to improve the supply chain and service compliance to customers.


 


Development of negotiation, operational oversight and customer supply strategies for ocean freight, international and domestic freight and third party (3PL) distribution services will be a primary function of this role.  This position will interface with the S&OP owner in support of business activities, capacity planning and inventory positioning with specific attention to the management of inventory fluctuations/excess build and resulting business impacts.  The Director of Logistics will be responsible for the development and management of departmental operating and capital budgets.

Ø      Develop and execute logistics and customer solutions that translate business needs and priorities into logistics strategies and programs that drive growth, optimize quality, customer service, operational efficiency and working capital while reducing costs


 


Ø      Develop strategy, lead negotiations and manage contractual relationships with freight and 3PL providers


Ø      Ocean freight annual bid and contract


Ø      Domestic and international LTL and small parcel bid and contract


Ø      Domestic and international 3PL distribution centers


 


Ø      Ensure vendors are held accountable for performance and continuous improvement including response time, delivery performance, quality improvement, cost control and cost reduction; utilize vendor scorecards to monitor and rate performance


 


Ø      Identify and apply technology solutions for continuous improvement of service, quality and staff performance


 


Ø      Develop the annual operating and capital budgets for all distribution center, 3PL, and order fulfillment operations;


Ø      insure budget compliance;


Ø      insure thorough and effective policies, procedures, systems and controls are established to efficiently manage spend


 


Ø      Hire, train, develop, review and motivate warehouse and support staff to utilize industry best practices


 


Ø      Develop, measure, maintain and report on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the operation


 


Ø      Oversee inventory control practices and bi-annual audit results


 


Ø      Oversee all approval processing and the coding of invoices related to the operation of the facility including freight payment and monthly auditing activities


 


Ø      Maintain broad knowledge of market trends on logistics issues, regulatory and environmental issues, and any other relevant cost factors affecting freight, warehousing and distribution costs
