JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE: Under the direction of the Vice President of Operations, the Director of Operations will manage and coordinate all operational activities, including environmental, health, and safety, all production departments, materials management activities, supply chain, facilities maintenance, human resources, quality, community relations, and process engineering activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES: include the following. Manage the development of, and monitor the execution of, the manufacturing schedule of all production departments. Plan and determine personnel requirements based on forecasts. Solicit overtime and shift change recommendations from Production supervisory staff and communicate summaries of major changes and/or overtime requirements to the Vice-President as necessary. Develop budgets and manage activities to accomplish financial objectives. Oversee the tracking of actual departmental spending by supervisory staff, ensuring that variances are resolved. Ensure all operations conform to the company’s safety policies and procedures, as well as federal, state, and local regulations. Evaluate all applicable international, domestic, state, local and vendor specific requirements and regulations involving safety, health, environmental, radiation safety, and hazardous materials transportation issues that impact the business. Direct, implement, coordinate and manage the quality assurance function to the requirements of current ISO and ASME standards. Develop process control procedures ensuring production of finished products meeting quality specifications and standards. Oversee maintenance, security, alteration and repair of buildings, structures, systems and facilities; the movement, installation, repair and overhaul of machines, tools and plant equipment and the formulation and effective implementation of preventive maintenance programs. Maintain close surveillance over operations through perusal of reports, staff meetings, direct observation, and personal contact to assure coordination and integration of workflow, timely production, budgetary conformance, schedules, and the utilization of personnel, skills, equipment, and facilities. Through motivating techniques, delegate proper authority and responsibility to subordinates to coordinate and expedite activities in the areas of scheduling, supply chain, process and facilities engineering, manufacturing, maintenance, staffing, training, and other related functions.
Direct, advise, and otherwise expedite and solve manufacturing and other related problems by utilizing resources in the technical departments to resolve and implement corrective procedures. In conjunction with Senior Management and others, assist with the development and formulation of short and long range plans, policies, programs, operating procedures, and objectives. Coordinate and direct major projects (e.g. acquisition and installation of capital equipment, major repairs, and plant layout changes) to the best scheduling and economic advantage.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent is required. Engineering degree in Materials Science preferred. MBA is a plus. A minimum of 7-10 years manufacturing management experience is required with at least 5 in precious metal manufacturing (required). ERP systems experience for production scheduling, cost management, material controls is required. Six sigma and lean manufacturing experience preferred.
