My client is a 100+ bed, brand new facility with service lines crossing the States of Illinois and Wisconsin.
They are seeking an outstanding Director of Outpatient and Consulting Services to lead several of their very successful outpatient service lines. Their consulting and outpatient services consist of the following departments:
Orthopedics
Speech Therapy
Sports Medicine
Occupational Therapy
Physical Therapy
Rehab Services
Behavioral Health
Endocrinology
Diabetic/Patient Education
Nephrology
Allergy/Pulmonology, EEG
Neurology
Rheumatology and Sleep Lab
Occupational Health
The Director of Consulting and Outpatient Services will be expected to achieve the following:
Establish credibility and earn the respect and trust of department employees, nursing leadership, emergency room physicians, primary care physicians and other medical staff. It is essential the new Director be visible within the departments.
Evaluate the team; make sure the right people are in the right places.
Gain a solid understanding of the culture and operational strategies of the organization. Ensure these are evident in the culture and operational strategies within the department.
Work with physicians and staff to identify and implement strategies that will maximize
resources across their service lines with the end result being patients are seen when they want to be seen in the most appropriate setting.
Become a respected and integral part of the leadership team; develop a sense of personal ownership for the future success of the departments and hospital.
Maintain and improve patient satisfaction scores.
Work closely with the medical staff to build a trusting relationship, be viewed as responsive, and see that communication with the medical staff is maximized.
Along with the CNO and Medical Director, set clear and reasonable goals for the service areas as a whole and clearly communicate the goals to the staff. Manage the department and hold employees accountable based upon these goals.
Create a positive environment in all departments through staff engagement in process improvement and coaching staff to achieve ongoing personal and professional development.
Cross train so that staff eventually can move between service areas.
Continue to increase volumes while reducing wait times.
Work with staff to create and implement new work flows.
The successful candidate will have the following attributes:
A minimum of 7-10 years experience in an acute care setting with at least five years
Supervisory/administrative experience in service line management required.
Some experience leading physician clinics would be considered a plus, but not mandatory.
Someone with experience in an emergency department that has achieved high patient satisfaction scores would be a plus.
As the organization has embraced LEAN, some familiarity or experience would be a plus.
Experience in recruiting and retaining staff. Ideally, this person will bring new and creative strategies to retain existing staff.
A demonstrated track record as an effective manager with a participatory style; should be a mentor, coordinator, delegate, developer and coach.
Experience in managing programs and staff to enhance quality, control costs, keep a customer focus and effectively lead a team of managers and clinical staff.
Experience with budgeting, finance, human resources, and planning.
Candidate Qualifications
Education
A Bachelor’s Degree with a Master’s preferred.
If a nurse, must hold a current Wisconsin RN license or be eligible for a nursing license in Wisconsin.
