Director of Product Management

About the Job

The Director-Product Management is responsible for the product planning and execution throughout the product lifecycle, including: gathering and prioritizing product and customer requirements, defining the product vision, and working closely with technology, sales, marketing and support to ensure revenue and market goals are met. The Director-Product Management's job also includes ensuring that the product supports the company's overall strategy and goals.

 

The Director-Product Management is expected to define the product strategy and roadmap requirements to drive P&L goals for specific product lines (product lines include an array of web-based and desktop software applications and data management systems that serve marketing, financing and ordering functions in the automotive industry). The Data Services Director-Product Management will work with automakers, web portals, finance institutions, retailers, and automotive dealer service providers to determine market requirements and product offerings.  The Director-Product Management delivers the requirements and prioritizes features with corresponding justification, and recommends technology and delivery methods to best meet market requirements.  The Director-Product Management works with the software engineering team to deliver product enhancements.  The Director-Product Management is responsible for working with the Marketing and Sales teams to drive sales of product(s).

Required Knowledge and Skills

 

Blend of proven business and technical skills.  Experience in the client/prospect markets to understand problems, and ability to find innovative solutions.  Excellent verbal, written, presentation, analytical, judgment, and listening skills.  Ability to effectively communicate within the company and work with a diverse team and many functions in multiple locations.  Ability to manage remote teams effectively.

Required Education and Experience

 

Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent knowledge required, plus to five to seven years of experience in product management, with progressive growth and demonstrated success running a product line P&L.  Five to 10 years of experience working with software engineering teams on complex information products (on product development), working through all phases of product development cycle.  Five to seven years of experience in the automotive or software services industry.

 

Supervisory Responsibility

 

This position entails management of a team of a product managers, associate product managers, UI and UX designers and business analysts.
