Director of Product Management (Product Manager)

About the Job

Summary

Plans, directs, and coordinates product management and business development programs, such as determining the demand for products and services offered by the company and its competitors, and identifies potential customers. This includes managing product & business development throughout the product lifecycle, gathering and prioritizing product and customer requirements, defining product vision, and working closely with all lines of the business, specifically by providing strategic inputs for production and sales planning. Develops pricing strategies with the goal of maximizing the company’s share of the market and profits while ensuring the customers are satisfied. Oversees product development or monitors trends that indicate the need for new products and services.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Defines product strategy and business development initiatives.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates product and business development strategies, based on knowledge of company objectives, technical product knowledge, market characteristics, and cost factors.
  • Initiates market research studies and analyzes findings.
  • Uses sales forecasting or strategic planning to ensure sales and profitability of products/services, analyzes business developments and monitors market trends.
  • Develops pricing strategies, balancing company objectives and customer satisfaction.
  • Quantifies market opportunities and risks, develops cost estimates, and defines resource requirements
  • Compiles lists & reports describing product or service offerings to Senior Management and implement product programs.
  • Manages product development efforts from product concepts phases to launch phases.
  • Evaluates the financial aspects of product development, such as budgets, expenditures, research and development appropriations, or return-on-investment and profit-loss projections. Sets pricing to meet revenue and profitability goals and monitors the profit and loss analysis regularly.
  • Manages communications and actions between the project/business unit teams (engineering, sales, production manufacturing, and marketing personnel), and the customer to ensure accuracy of information communicated and ensures continued growth in relationships between areas.
  • Coordinates comprehensively with engineering departments to monitor and implement continuous efforts that enhance products and improve overall cost of goods sold.
  • Performs product and new business development management tasks as assigned and consult with management regularly regarding tasks.
  • Develops and delivers product documentation improvements and investigates and corrects problems with products and corresponding company documentation.
  • Participates and travels during promotional activities and trade shows, working with engineers, advertisers, and/or other managers, to market products or services.
  • Works to maintain an understanding of product and material problems encountered, assuring appropriate corrective action is taken and sustained throughout the company.
  • Maintains current awareness of customer complaints and assure appropriate action is taken as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

Sales and Marketing knowledge of principles and methods for showing, promoting, and selling products or services. This includes marketing strategy and tactics, product demonstration, sales techniques, and new business development control systems.

Strategic Planning and Analytical ability

Customer and Personal Service knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.

Active Listening, Critical thinking, Active learning, and Problem Solving.

Budgeting, Negotiation, and Math Aptitude
Interpersonal Relations, Professionalism, and Social Perceptiveness
Excellent Oral and Written Communication Skills in the English Language as related to job function.

Aptitude to effectively utilize Customer Relationship Management CRM software, ERP/MRP database applications, engineering database applications, marketing-promotional software, and other company databases.

Proficient computer skills using 2007/2010 Microsoft Office Suites and operatig systems. 

 

 

Education/Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or other science/technical field preferred. Associate’s Degree with extensive product and company industry knowledge, experience, and other qualifications may be considered.

7 to 10 years of experience in product management, business development, and/or similar field.

Extensive market and technical product knowledge within RF Land Mobile Radio (LMR), Public Safety and Two-Way Radio industry expertise is needed for position.
