Director of Product and Marketing Management

About the Job


The Director of Product and Marketing Management (DPMM) is responsible for the product and service offering (PRODUCTS) for the entire company, acts as a general manager of the PRODUCTS and is ultimately responsible for their overall success. The DPMM owns the PRODUCTS plans, revenues and profitability through the PRODUCTS life cycle.  The DPMM manages a team of product managers/product marketing managers, which are responsible for the company’s individual product line(s) including planning, defining, positioning, pricing, and promoting (evangelizing) the product line(s)- along with managing the market adoption and product life cycle. The DPMM also manages the market research manager.


                             


This role also includes the indirect management and cooperation of others within the company to ensure the  PRODUCTS success.


 


Key Job Responsibilities include:


 


Ø  Ensure a market driven product planning process and offering across the entire organization


Ø  Establish competitive and profitable pricing models


Ø  Ensure the existence and support of product distribution - Sales


Ø  Orchestrate effective internal launch and marketing plans and promotions to drive revenue


 


Knowledge, Skills and Experience - The ideal candidate for this position should possess the following background/skills/experience:


 


·         At least 3 years of product/product marketing management experience managing all aspects of a product line.


·         At least 9 years of experience in a high tech (software, hardware, services and consultancy) or automatic / packaging machineries (software, hardware, electromechanical components, service and consultancy) company (or similar company) as a VP or Director of product management/product marketing management with experience in early adopter products.


·         A strong marketing background with a marketing degree (undergraduate or an MBA with an emphasis in marketing) and/or at least 5 years of hands-on marketing experience.


·         A good technical background and a good understanding of the development process (either formal engineering or proven aptitude with high-tech products).


·         Experience creating, expanding or reorganizing and managing a team of product/product marketing managers.


·         An extensive understanding of the entire product management and product marketing framework, activities and functions (all aspects) necessary to coach and direct a market driven product management/product marketing team (decentralized).


·         Pragmatic Marketing course work/framework preferred.


 


The ideal candidate for this position should have extensive experience in the following areas (product management/product marketing related): 


·         Competitive landscape and assessment, competitive analysis and matrix.


·         Determining customer needs and customer requirements (via research, personal interviews, focus groups, surveys, roundtables, etc.) and translating them, through the development process and via alliances, into product plans/road maps, MRD’s and complete products.


·         Determining buy/build/partner decisions and alliances definition/establishment.


·         Creating and managing the road map and the product contracts with the development team, and monitoring the implementation of the product projects.


·         Market research.


·         Segmentation and market(s) definition/sizing.


·         Product life cycle management and the adoption life cycle.


·         Creating product business plans.


·         Creating yearly budgets for the PRODUCTS.


·         Processes to establish prices and pricing strategy to maximize results.


·         Definition of buying and user/technical personas and market messages.


·         Product positioning and product ROI for customers.


·         Branding.


·         Buying process / Sales strategy definition.


·         Marketing plans / Promotional approaches, including web marketing and web presence.


·         Ads, Collateral, Sales tools, demo script definitions.


·         Product launch plans and execution.


·         Win/Loss analysis.


·         Analyzing product performance and sales success, product profitability an operational metrics.


·         Sales support, sales and channel training.


·         Creation of customer case studies to justify product positioning.


·         Distribution requirements.


·         Management of the product management/product marketing budget including research, travel, events and participation in partner events, collateral, ads, direct marketing and co-marketing activities.


·         Working well with customers, sales, alliances, engineering, technical/product support and management.


 


 Other Areas:
