Converse College currently has a job opening for a full time position as Director of Prospect Research and Campaign Coordinator. A description of this position follows. If you are interested in applying, please follow application instructions and submit at least two writing samples with resume.  Summary of Duties: Identify and profile individual, corporate, and foundation donors, volunteer leadership at all levels, and award nominees. Research prospective donors for gifts, including endowed gifts, special project funding, and annual/sustaining support. Research prospective volunteer leadership at all levels and provide background information on award nominees. Provide written reports about specific donors and prospects, containing an analysis of information gathered from public sources. With development staff members, determine strategies for identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donors and prospects. Collaborate with other members of the College’s Advancement division to create fundraising project summaries, funding proposals, stewardship reports and other written materials for internal and external audiences. Assist with the administration and implementation of the comprehensive fundraising campaign with specific focus on supporting the reporting, research and tracking needs of the College’s Advancement division and associated campaign committees. Attend meetings of the campaign committees and serve as secretary/recorder for those meetings. Provide support for development staff members, other offices on campus and volunteer leadership to ensure that the development process moves forward in a timely manner. Assist with fundraising efforts for the Converse Annual Fund through telephone solicitations. Assume primary responsibility for meeting the prospect identification and research needs of members of the development staff, President of the College and key volunteers. Meet regularly with members of the development staff, keeping abreast of their activities and the initiatives and programs underway. Regularly collaborate with development staff to develop prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, and overall fundraising strategies. Consult with development staff to determine priority of research requests and special projects. Advise members of development staff about potential new prospects as appropriate or requested. Use both standard and novel prospect research techniques and tools to identify new prospects and complete donor background requests, including periodical and electronic screening and/or information provided by the prospect or his/her organization. Create profile reports and strategy memos tailored to individual needs and in collaboration with the Administrative Assistant to the Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Associate Campaign Coordinator (“AAVPIA&ACC”) and Administrative Assistant to the President (“AAP”), prepare notebooks for development calls by the President, staff members and campaign volunteers.  Develop and maintain policies and procedures for the prospect research program. Maintain and develop professional relationships with local prospect researchers, as well as national and local associations.  Review local and national news and business publications, keeping abreast of prospect information and local and regional business developments and economic trends. Send articles to development staff as appropriate. Manage research information services. Establish and maintain Development database to track/store profile data and manage the data—researching and compiling prospect lists, tracking, prospect contacts and completed calls, and providing for the management functions of members of the development staff, President of the College and volunteers, thereby generating accurate and time sensitive reports. Establish and maintain accurate comprehensive capital campaign records and reports:  prospect evaluations, assignments and tracking, together with completed calls. Attend all meetings of the campaign committees and serve as secretary/recorder for those meetings. Follow up with volunteers and staff regarding assignments to ensure timely moves and closure. Serve as a resource for proposals, identifying campaign priorities in which prospects—individuals, corporations and foundations—may have an interest and assist in the preparation of proposals. Adhere to ethical and confidentiality guidelines, including but not limited to safeguarding the confidentiality of donor information at all times. Compliance with the College’s Service Expectations. Maintain the professional and ethical standards set forth for the field by the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA). Make limited telephone solicitations on behalf of the Converse Annual Fund as assigned. Perform other duties as assigned or requested.  Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree. Two years’ experience in development research or related field preferred. Knowledge of standard biographic, business and financial information sources. An aptitude for logical thinking. Knowledge of standard concepts, practices and procedures related to the position, including: ability to utilize research databases and technologies, expertise in use of English grammar, punctuation and syntax; familiarity with appropriate business software applications; ability to learn subject-specific terminology for use in developing written materials; knowledge of when and how to use various channels of communication. Extensive computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft office software (including but not limited to Outlook, Word and Excel), searching online databases and the Internet. Demonstrated knowledge of research skills, business correspondence and reports. Strong project management skills, initiative and creative problem-solving skills.  Ability to meet deadlines while maintaining good relations with colleagues. Ability to quickly and effectively gather information by means of interviews, database research, etc. demonstrated ability to work both independently and in a collaborative team environment, exhibiting good listening skills, responsiveness and reciprocity that contribute to the overall success of the department and the division. Ability to coordinate, interpret, critique and/or synthesize the work of others and to make a meaningful contribution to such work. Ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of people on- and off-campus.  Comfortable managing multiple projects, priorities and deadlines.
