The Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen) is a non‐profit biomedical research
institute based in Phoenix, Arizona, focused on research that can help patients with cancer,
neurological disorders, diabetes and other debilitating conditions. Working with a
worldwide network of collaborators in the scientific and medical communities, TGen
researchers study the genetic components of both common and complex diseases. Through
genomic analysis, we learn how DNA, genes and proteins – the microscopic building block
of life – can affect human health. Our 41 lead investigators and nearly 300 support
personnel at sites in Phoenix, Scottsdale and Flagstaff, Arizona, are dedicated to improving
patient care and quality of life through precision medicine, best defined as the right
therapy, for the right patient, at the right time.
Brief Posting Description
The Director provides oversight for the purchasing operations of TGen including supervision of staff, vendor and internal relationship building and management, compliance with federal grant procurement standards, cost competitive pricing, and best practices in purchasing while utilizing TGen technologies to add value to the supply chain. Manages and implements goals as established by the CFO. Interacts regularly with other functional Directors and Scientific Investigators to improve organizational processes and ensure value is added to support the goals of the organization.
Detailed Description
- Supervision of purchasing staff members. Review reports to ensure balance of productivity among staff members. Assist purchasing staff in resolution of procurement problems. Monitor purchases to ensure best value is obtained on every procurement action. Evaluate procurement practices for opportunities to reduce internal costs, increase value to customers, ensure compliance with federal procurement standards, and streamline procedures.
- Interact effectively with CFO, other functional Directors, and Scientific Investigators to improve organizational processes and ensure value is added to support the goals of the organization. Strive to gain knowledge about scientific supplies and equipment needed to conduct research in order to monitor customer needs and solve procurement problems. Inform and educate end users concerning available procurement contracts.
- Periodically review and renegotiate vendor contracts to ensure TGen is receiving competitive pricing, terms, and shipping discounts. For capital purchases, assist with development of specifications for competitive bids and documentation of review and selection process in conjunction with scientific and project management staff. Analyze, evaluate, and award proposals; determine best pricing, service, and features. Negotiate agreements and Terms and Conditions.
- Responsible for establishing collaborative relationships with vendors focused on adding value to the procurement process through product sourcing, competitive bidding, and product evaluation. Manage vendor contacts and vendor shows to provide hands on opportunities for TGen Scientific staff to view new products.
Job Requirements
- Functional knowledge of procurement standards and practices.
- Knowledge of Health Care or Bioscience Industry.
- Experience in dealing with vendors or suppliers, competitive bidding process, and federal grant requirements.
- B.S. degree min. with 10+ years of experience.
- CPM certification
- Computer knowledge in all areas of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Oracle.
