The Rockefeller University is a biomedical research institute with a leading Ph.D. program located in Manhattan.  We have an opportunity for a highly motivated candidate with a commitment to the mission to enhance SMET (Science, Mathematics, Engineering, and Technology) education in the greater New York City area.  Formally established in 1992, the Science Outreach Program is a comprehensive student enrichment and teacher professional development program.  Each year, approximately 50 students and 10 teachers participate in the seven-week summer program, in which they work with leading biomedical scientists to carry out individualized research projects in Rockefeller laboratories.

The successful candidate will oversee all aspects of the Summer Science Outreach Program for High School students and K-12 science teachers, the laboratory volunteer program, teaching partnerships with local schools, and other programs as developed.  In addition to managing all the administrative, programmatic, and day-to-day operations of the educational outreach program, you will work closely with the University leadership and the Science Outreach Advisory Committee to develop and implement program and evaluation strategies, develop a strategic plan, work with other offices on campus to identify and apply for federal and private funding opportunities and develop and sustain relationships with current and prospective individual, foundation, and corporate donors, coordinate opportunities for Rockefeller scientists to partner with local schools, and serve as a liaison to Rockefeller laboratory heads, students, parents, teachers, school officials, donors, and community leaders regarding the program.

A Bachelor's Degree is required; a Master's Degree or Ph.D. in science, education, or a relevant field is preferred.  Excellent communication skills, including writing and public speaking, as well as the ability to develop concise written analytical reports, grant proposals, and promotional and educational materials is required. Superior organizational, planning, and problem solving skills and an entrepreneurial approach is necessary. Must have general knowledge of program evaluation and strategies for continuous quality improvement of science education programs, data management experience, and knowledge of effective procedures for budgeting, budget management, and grant management. Fluency in scientific topics in order to communicate effectively with Rockefeller scientists, experience working with students and their families, and previous grant writing and proven history of successfully identifying and securing grant funding is strongly preferred. Previous management experience at an educational or scientific organization is a plus.
