POSITION SUMMARY   The Director of Women's Services is responsible for all nursing care delivered on a particular unit. Assesses, implements or delegates, plans and evaluates total nursing care for the assigned unit in accordance with established philosophy. Delegates nursing responsibilities of the unit, to the Charge Nurses as appropriate. Responsible for orientation, training, and management of personnel. Ensures adequate, cost-effective staffing is maintained to deliver safe patient care. Relates effectively with all shifts for continuity of care. Maintains satisfactory relations with other departments, medical staff and nursing units. Participates in all phases of education, maintenance of records, and upgrading of policies, procedures and skills of personnel.   Involved in all aspects of nursing care, as necessary.   Assumes primary responsibility for effective supervision of nursing activities of the units within women’s services (Labor Delivery, Mother-Baby Unit, Newborn Nursery, Maternal-Fetal Medicine.)   Assists in the management of financial, capital and human resources to ensure services meet established quality and productivity standards.  Assists with corrective action as necessary.  

EDUCATION Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a Bachelor’s of Nursing degree and preferably, Master’s Science Nursing degree  
EXPERIENCE Five (5) years clinical nursing experience is preferred.  Supervisory/Management experience is preferred.  
QUALIFICATIONS/CERTIFICATION Registered Nurse with valid Texas license BLS certification required; ACLS certification highly desired/recommended. Must have working knowledge of the nursing process as well as in depth knowledge of therapeutic, physical, psychosocial, spiritual, cultural, and developmental needs for a select category of patients. Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
