Distribution Worker

Job Description:
Primary Purpose:

Under supervision, performs a variety of manual tasks related to the operations of warehouses. Responsible for ensuring all orders are accurately and efficiently distributed in compliance with specified customer-shipping instructions. Responsible for the movement of material throughout the distribution center in accordance with safety, quality and productivity guidelines performed in the following work areas:

? Shipping – sorting and loading
? Receiving – receipt detailing
? Shelf & Bulk stocking
? Shelf & Bulk order fill
? Housekeeping
? Quality checking
? Packing
? Stocking/Bin
? Bulk to Bin replenishment
? Bin order fill
? Returns
? Furniture set-up
? Mark outs
? Inventory Control
? Cycle counts
? Process bills of lading

Daily Duties & Responsibilities:

? Works in a team-oriented environment.

? Performs a variety of tasks in a variety of departments according to the work assignments for that particular day. This may be in the Associate’s regularly assigned department or in any other department as needed.

? Performs tasks in accordance with standard practices, procedures or methods.

? Receives incoming shipments of merchandise in accordance with Company standard receiving practices. Unloads materials onto or from pallets, trays, racks and shelves by hand and forklift. Conveys materials to or from storage or work sites to designated areas using hand truck and power devices. Verifies receipts against delivery manifest and/or purchase order. Must be familiar with use of receiving forms and maintenance of records.

? Will be responsible for learning and operating computer terminals in an automatic receiving system environment.

? Will be responsible for becoming certified to operate power equipment.

? Stocks merchandise in proper locations according to standard Company practice. May require operation of various types of manual and powered hand trucks to move merchandise. Will be responsible for learning and operating computer terminals in an automatic stock system environment.

? Fills customer orders. Works from computer-generated picking documents to select merchandise ordered. Detail and accuracy expected to be at 99.7% or better.

? Packs a variety of products in standard containers according to prescribed practices. Covers products with packing material to prevent shifting or breakage. Will also back up computer terminal related to the automatic stock system environment.

? Assembles orders for pickup or for loading on delivery truck. Must be familiar with proper loading techniques, Company shipping practices, use of shipping form and maintenance of records.

? Process customer returns.

? May perform other general duties including, but not limited to, straightening shelves, sweeping floors, removing refuse, washing windows, and the use of hand-operated power scrubbing, waxing and vacuuming equipment.

? Any other function relating to the completion of daily operational goals as directed.

? Ensure correct merchandise is picked, packed and shipped in requested quantities and in proper container. Ensure merchandise is placed in correct stock location. Ensure merchandise received matches receiving documentation (brands, number of cartons and number of stacking units).

? Associate is expected to work as a team player and assist other departments as required. Associate is expected to assist in any other special projects as needed. Associate is expected to participate in process improvement related to improving quality and increased efficiency or productivity.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

    Experience:

  • No previous experience is required. 0 - 2 years of warehouse experience preferred.

    Knowledge & Skill:

    Must be able to understand simple directions in English. Perform basic math and use a computer. Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions. Must be able to follow details in a timely and accurate manner. Must be able to communicate effectively and work within a team environment. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
