Pacific Northwest National Laboratory is one of the U.S. Department of Energy’s national laboratories, managed by DOE’s Office of Science. Work conducted at PNNL is documented in reports and other communications products.  The Document Production Specialist will be a member of a strong team committed to quality technical communications. The Document Production Specialist

 

  • Formats content and incorporates revisions into documents of various kinds using one or more type of software to conform with established standards
  • Converts documents to/from PC and Mac
  • Prepares camera-ready documents (for example, inserting or modifying figures and tables)
  • Uses reference books (dictionary, grammar texts, style manuals, and editing handbooks) to proofread text and check for overall clarity, sense, tone, and tense.  Notes inconsistencies in spelling, punctuation, grammar, syntax, and word usage errors
  • Makes sure all citations in text appear in the reference list
  • Performs quality assurance reviews to make sure all components are included
  • Teams with other document production staff and may lead large or complex projects
  • Performs routine and non-routine work
  • Troubleshoots software and printing malfunctions, and stays abreast of new technological advances
  • Builds relationships with customers to secure client base. 

 

Established formatting standards cover many but not all of the duties.  These duties require analysis; independent good judgment; knowledge of technical terminology and interpretation of project-specific data; detailed knowledge of the document production business; and good written and oral communication skills.  Challenges include meeting deadlines with short turnaround times and collaborating with diverse levels of staff.  The Document Production Specialist works on a variety of documents including those classified as Sensitive Unclassified, Business Protected Materials, and Official Use Only.


Minimum Requirements

A Bachelor’s degree is required.  The incumbent must apply a solid knowledge of English grammar and vocabulary, and proficiency in computer use to primarily routine assignments.  The individual must also have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (including Excel and PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat.

Preferred Qualifications

A working knowledge of WordPerfect, Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
