About the Job

From electric vehicles to renewables to complex IT systems, the utility industry is rapidly changing—and we are looking for a voice to help envision the future and move the industry toward it. Energy Central seeks a tenacious, innovative, tech-savvy and detail-oriented writer/editor to deliver the must-read daily newsletter and online content for the smart grid and intelligent utility space. Here are some more specifics:


 


Daily delivery of interesting and intriguing original content in the smart grid/intelligent utility space


·         Produce at least one original, insightful article each day on a smart grid/intelligent utility hot topic


·         Cover key events, interview industry participants, review key reports and news articles on a daily basis (focus on primarily on utility, research and public policy perspectives)


·         Rank top 5 most important news stories each day


·         Manage  and respond to reader feedback


·         Work with appropriate Energy Central resources for timely delivery of newsletter


·         Coordinate article delivery from other Energy Central writers


·         Determine what news, reports, white papers and so forth belong on the web site


Develop strong relationships in the smart grid/intelligent utility space


·         Produce content that will encourage discussion on “hot button” issues and engage readers in dialogue


·         Follow up regularly with interviewees and contacts


·         Attend and present at key events and participate in online events, networking sites and discussion boards through other channels


Assist advertising sales team in explaining the editorial position of daily newsletter


 


Continue to expand your knowledge about the smart grid/intelligent utility

Minimum Requirements:



  • Professional writing experience

  • Ability to concentrate and work under pressure in order to meet daily deadlines

  • Express ideas clearly, logically and concisely with a strong voice and personality

  • Some experience in the utility industry or technology-related knowledge

  • Demonstrate good judgment and a strong sense of ethics in deciding what material to publish

  • Makes good use of web tools and online industry resources

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, English, engineering or similar field, or equivalent experience

Desired:



  • In-depth knowledge of and experience with information technology and smart grid in the utility industry

  • Writing experience with a daily media outlet

  • Experience with social media such as Twitter, Facebook, blogging sites, etc.

  • B2B information product creation success

  • Worked in the utility industry for a utility, vendor or consulting firm
