STG, Inc. is looking for a Drought Scientist for the U.S. Historical Climatology Network Modernization.

In this position, your duties will include:

• Developing a contribution of USHCN-M to drought monitoring.
• Comparing the drought monitoring products developed using the combined USHCN-M/USCRN instrument suite to objective SCAN soil moisture data and subjective U.S. Drought Monitor assessments.
• Providing access to the USHCN-M observations and drought tools through the U.S. Drought Portal.
• Testing the transferability of the improved drought monitoring system based on USHCN-M/USCRN integration in Alabama by applying it to the Southwest USHCN-M Pilot Region.

Requirements:

• Educational background in a quantitative physical or environmental science at a Ph.D. level, or M.S. level with 2 years professional work experience in a science field.
• Substantial experience in performing scientific data analysis and have computer programming abilities appropriate for performing climate data analysis, building climate monitoring product prototypes, and working with simple soil moisture models.
• Knowledge of and experience with modern atmospheric and soil measurement equipment and data would be beneficial.
