EHS Engineer
Job Summary
Provide environmental, health, and safety leadership for Joliet and other facilities. Compliance to Federally mandated requirements from the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protected Agency (EPA), and local jurisdiction as they apply to the facility are instituted by developing, documenting, implementing, monitoring and maintaining programs, policies, and procedures to ensure the facility is operated in a safe and compliant manner.
Duties and Responsibilities
Obtain and maintain required permits as mandated by EPA or authorized agency for compliant operation of facility's interaction with air, water or soil. Monitor/perform/report requirements of permit or regulation as mandated by EPA or authorized agency. Ensure compliance with legal requirements (waste management, chemical handling management, air pollution management, waste water management, etc.). Manage ISO 14000 system - (i.e. environmental aspects evaluation, legal compliance evaluation, site specific objectives and programs, training, communication with interested parties, site specific documentation, operational control, emergency preparedness, records control, management review, etc.). Provide awareness and training information to workforce on environmental matters. Gather and analyze data on environmental metrics. Track environmental performance of the facility. Conduct internal environmental audits. Track and measure corrective actions/preventative actions and improvement plans. Advise and make recommendations on environmentally friendly and legally acceptable raw materials and consumables. Interface closely with Licensed Professional Health Care Professional (LPHCP) to develop wellness and prevention programs. Provide analysis and correction of present and potential health care concerns that are immediate or long term. Review/analyze/approve use of new processes, equipment, and chemicals from environmental and safety prospective. Increase employee's awareness of CommScope's Safety Mission and Vision. Develop risk management and process safety management programs aimed to achieve the mission and vision. Ensure compliance with legal requirements. Conduct risk assessment to eliminate or minimize H&S risks; develop and maintain reporting methodology. Develop and ensure delivery of required (OSHA) training. Coordinate/perform periodic safety audits and reviews. Coordinate accident investigation and emergency action drills. Conduct regular surveys at workplace (noise, temperature, chemicals vapors/fumes/oil mist/dust concentration level, etc.) Provide regular update to Management. Report performance trends (EHS metrics, issues and areas for improvement) to management on regular basis. Prepare and submit regulatory required reports, communicate with relevant governmental agencies (i.e.OHSA). Develop and maintain all appropriate documentation (policies, programs, procedures, instructions, etc.). Manage OHSAS 18001 system Manage/lead contract security force and surveillance equipment, review resolve incidents/potential incidents. Co-operate with other ACCG facilities and provide support/advice to ACCG facilities in North America
Job Specifications
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Engineering or a related technical curriculum required and 2-5 years of related experience or a Masters degree in related technical curriculum and 0-2 years of related experience. Previous experience in development and implementation of EHS programs for manufacturing organizations required. Knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations required. Candidates must also have strong project management and interpersonal skills. Good knowledge of federal and state Health & Safety / Environmental legal requirements (EPA, IEPA, OSHA, etc.) regulations, permitting and reporting); ability to learn and keep up-to-date with changes in the law.
