MI Technologies currently has a need for an Electrical Design Engineer in its Product Engineering department. Product Engineering develops electronic equipment used in Automated Microwave Measurement Systems, including Microwave Receivers, Microwave Signal Sources, and Position Control instruments. The high performance demands of these Measurement Systems drive the specifications for each product to extreme precision and accuracy.
The primary skills required for this position are digital hardware design, low frequency analog circuit design, and unit level product design. These skills include the ability to design and analyze digital and analog circuits, select appropriate components, develop schematics using OrCad, oversee board layout, develop parts lists, and create a complete documentation package including test procedures and instruction manuals. Unit-level product design may also include selecting power supplies, producing wiring harness drawings using Visio, and working with a Mechanical engineer to develop unit packaging. The ability to test and troubleshoot all designs in support of manufacturing and system integration is also required.
The type of work performed in Product Engineering varies significantly from time to time. Therefore, in addition to the primary skills listed above, the flexibility and capability of contributing in one or more secondary Product Engineering roles is required. These may include one or more of the following:
A strong background in feedback control systems is very desirable. This includes the ability to design and analyze a control loop, and select motor and feedback components. The ability to perform embedded software design in support of implementing the control loop would be a very strong combination of skills.
Proficiency in FPGA coding combined with strong digital design is very strong combination of skills.
Experience in RF circuit design, RF subsystem design, Digital Signal Processing, Microwave Measurement equipment architecture, microwave components, and design and integration of systems using these components and instruments is valuable.
The ability to learn quickly, pay attention to detail, and work productively to solve a variety of problems will be necessary for success in this position. This position also requires the ability to manage one’s own time to meet budgets and schedules as well as the interpersonal skills necessary to work effectively as part of a team.
Experience must include 5 or more years of digital hardware design, and educational background must include a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering. Occasional travel may be required.
