Electrical Project Engineer

RESPONSIBILITIES:           

 

The Electrical Project Engineer will be responsible for developing, planning, organizing, and managing capital, reliability, and process improvement projects for areas throughout the plant.  Additionally, this position will provide maintenance and production support as needed as well as act as an interfaces with plant and area management, area and shops maintenance personnel, vendors, contractors, area engineering, and contract engineers.

 

Project Management responsibilities include:

¨      Develop project scope, feasibility, cost estimates and schedule.

¨      Prepare project approval authorizations.

¨      Develop specifications.

¨      Charter, lead and facilitate cross-functional project teams.

¨      Manage project resources, budgets and schedules.

¨      Administer engineering and design contracts.

¨      Verify control system design and total integration with plant systems.

¨      Coordinate and manage installations, outages and equipment start-ups.

¨      Prepare and organize project documentation (manuals, PM’s, spare parts, correspondence, drawings, drawing lists, material listings, etc.)

¨      Coordinate operator and maintenance training.

¨      Track, report and manage final project performance, schedule and cost compliance (included above).

 

Design Engineering responsibilities include:

¨      Initiate and implement new designs or upgrades to electrical systems including:

´  Electrical control systems, electrical drive systems, programming development, plant utilities, cranes, and mill process equipment.

´  Technically competent in analyzing electrical design concepts and improvements.

´  Other:

§  Assist in troubleshooting equipment control and electrical systems.

§  Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs and procedures.

§  Coordinate and support electrical safety initiatives.

§  Provide technical support during equipment outages.

§  Manage Project Documentation.

§  Evaluate reliability improvement options.

§  Work with cross-functional teams to develop process and production improvements.

 

EDUCATION:           

 

A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is required. 

                       

EXPERIENCE:                 

 

This individual will possess:

 

¨      Five to ten years progressive experience in heavy industry that includes leadership in project engineering. 

¨      Communication, organizational skills, presentation skills and leadership traits, which play a major role in this assignment. 

¨      Leadership and project management skills with demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams.

¨      Experience in project scheduling, specification writing, electrical design, digital and analog drives, PLC and distributed control systems, National Electrical Code, AC/DC motors to 4,000 HP, power/control theory, and application and instrumentation.

¨      Excellent computer skills: AutoCad, MS Project, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access.

¨      Expertise with lean engineering and Six Sigma manufacturing techniques - the total product will be an advantage.

¨      Extensive knowledge in estimating, creative engineering, project management, cost analysis, and contractor management is vital for this assignment.
