Job Title: Electrician Apprentice - Electrical Maintenance Specialist

Job Summary: Repairs, constructs, installs, troubleshoots, and maintains routine electrical systems and equipment. Cuts, threads, bends, couples, and straps conduit. Cuts wire and conduit to length. Installs, repairs, or replaces switch boxes, light bulbs, plugs, sockets, light fuses, and extension cords. Troubleshoots electrical malfunctions, inspects circuits and wiring for shielding and grounding, and tests electrical equipment for safety and efficiency. Uses blueprints, drawings, layout, or other specifications, and electrical hand tools and voltage-or-amperage measuring and recording devices. Impact of work significant to assigned area. Erroneous work practices could result in failure to achieve schedule, and potentially affect mission success. A wide and comprehensive acquaintance with, and understanding of, both general and specific aspects and the technical phases of the job and their practical application to complex problems and situations ordinarily encountered. Minimal supervision. May work without established procedures, performing a wide variety of nonstandard complex tasks using advanced techniques and requiring extensive knowledge of discipline. Supports the design/development of new or modified equipment or methods/systems for improved performance through analysis and check-out. May be required to assist in the bidding process for special projects as they arise.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Performs necessary maintenance to maintain, repair or replace defective parts.

  • Perform adjustments and calibration procedures on various equipment including load centers and distribution switchgear to 13.5KV.

  • Maintain and troubleshoot Variable Frequency Drives, Motor Control Centers, multistage centrifugal pumps, and general power plant equipment.

  • Make necessary electrical installations and/or repairs such as lighting and new equipment controls.

  • Perform Preventative Maintenance as instructed on all equipment/machinery/facility.

  • Maintain working knowledge of mechanical/electrical principles/concepts through training

  • Diagnose and replace faulty mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components of machines and equipment.

  • Replaces faulty electrical components of machine, such as relays, switches, and motors, and positions sensing devices, using hand tools

  • Tests malfunctioning machinery, using test equipment, and discusses malfunction with other maintenance workers, such as machine repair, maintenance to diagnose malfunction.

  • Diagnoses malfunctioning apparatus, such as transformers, motors, and lighting fixtures, using test equipment, and replaces damaged or broken wires and cables, using hand tools


  • HS Diploma, Technical School or Apprenticeship

  • Four to six years of Industrial Electrical Maintenance Experience is required.

  • Licensed Journeyman Electrician a plus

  • Read, write and speak English.

  • Experience with Medium voltage distribution systems and equipment
