Role Summary/Purpose
The Electrochemist Engineer will develop products and processes for advanced battery energy storage solutions. In this role, you will be responsible for major and complex assignments with long-term business implications, contributing to the overall strategy, managing complex issues within functional area of expertise, and leading product development in support of current and next-generation GE energy storage products; including work on battery materials, processes, modeling, and life analysis.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Assign and mentor task leaders in battery technology development
  • Identify key technical issues and focus resources to produce cutting edge technical breakthroughs in energy storage
  • Develop and drive new ideas in battery materials, devices and processing to develop high energy and power density batteries
  • Lead projects and initiatives with broad scope and high impact to the business
  • Executes the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product/program requirements
  • Recommends approach to meet the technical and program requirements and follow through on meeting program deliverables
  • Formulate and implement plans to achieve technical requirements, scheduling, and contract commitments
  • Develop action plans to anticipate and respond to problems. Develop abatement plans for program slips
  • Provide technical guidance to other personnel and assigned teams; mentor others in the organization
  • Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures
  • Communicate project status, business issues, and significant developments
  • Lead or participate in organizational efforts in assigned projects and/or tasks
  • Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews

    Qualifications/Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Material Science
  • Minimum 5 years experience in energy storage technology with an emphasis on electrochemistry

    Additional Eligibility Qualifications

    Desired Characteristics
  • Masters Degree or Doctorate
  • At least 7 years of experience
  • Strong technical aptitude, including applicable engineering tools and systems
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Expertise with research, development and manufacturing support in battery technology
  • At least 10 years experience in energy storage and preferably battery technology
  • Experienced in the characterization and analysis of electrochemical reactions
  • Experienced in the analysis and design of battery packs
  • Experienced in electrode structure development
  • Experienced with cyclic voltametry, electrical impedance spectroscopy, and battery cycling experimentation
  • Familiarity with molten salts
  • Knowledge of process steps for cell and battery fabrication
  • Understanding of the battery industry and technologies involved
  • Strong engineering & scientific judgment and practical approach to technology
  • In-depth-experience in the development of materials, methods, systems related to the investigation and development of energy storage technologies
  • Demonstrated project leadership experience, including successful track record of completing deliverables on schedule and on budget
  • Proven record of innovation in areas related to energy storage and battery technology
  • Proven experience at translating new product innovations into reliable manufacturing processes
