This is a technical position in the University Library System/Information Systems Department. The incumbent will serve as a liaison between library technical staff and academic editors and production staff for a growing body of electronic journals and author self-archiving repositories. The incumbent will assist editorial staff in designing workflows appropriate for the electronic publishing environment, configure systems to implement these workflows, and train editorial staff in the use of Web-based scholarly publishing tools. Training and/or experience with scholarly publishing workflows, either print or electronic, effective problem solving skills, and excellent communication skills, both written and oral, are required, as well as the flexibility, intelligence, and drive to handle the variety of responsibilities and the demands of currency in this rapidly evolving field. The incumbent may occasionally be on call for system support during evening/weekend hours. Baccalaureate degree in relevant field, plus 2 years work experience in the publishing industry required; strong technical competence and creativity; strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability and desire to learn; ambition to be an important member of an outstanding technical team. Demonstrated knowledge of information systems to manage complex workflows preferred. 2-3 years experience with scholarly publishing workflows, either print or electronic (preferred). Working knowledge of scholarly document creation and formatting in html and pdf formats required. Demonstrated ability to work with disparate stakeholders (academic editors, authors, IT staff, readers / subscribers) in a team-oriented environment to achieve common goals. Experience with Web-based information systems at a user level (required) or administrator level (preferred).
