Emergency Service Specialist - Long Island

General/Other: Installation/Maintenance/Repair;Wire and Cable Install/Maintain/Repair

Experience the personal challenge of working for a world class organization and leader in the Utilities and Energy industry as an Emergency Service Specialist for our Electric Service Department for our Long Island New York territory.  The primary responsibilities are:

 

  • As you work alone, making initial response to all types of electric emergency conditions.

 

  • Performing all types of line work on energized overhead and underground distribution and transmission lines in all voltage classifications.  Investigating, locating and repairing faults on distribution and transmission lines in all voltage classifications.  Making all types of standard connections, phasing out, paralleling circuits and making electrical tests on voltage classifications. 

 

  • Performing all types of switching on distribution and transmission circuits.  Operating circuit breakers and other equipment in substations as required.

 

  • Operate various types of line vehicles and equipment such as bucket trucks, jib-boom and portable transformer trucks.  Responsible for truck stock and additional material or equipment required to perform work.

 

  • Investigating gas emergencies and taking proper action to avoid danger and inconvenience to the public.

 

  • Reading and interpreting overhead and underground work order prints, construction standards, wiring diagrams, circuit maps, transformer connections and distribution equipment wiring diagram.  Be familiar with the various types of service and meter connections as they apply to the work.  Analyze, maintain and repair all types of distribution equipment such as reclosures, vacuum switches, capacitor controls, load break switches, etc.

 

  • Meeting the customers and the public in a pleasant, tactful manner and performing the duties in such a manner as to ensure good public relations.  Being thoroughly familiar with the Company’s general rules for the operation of the electric system as it applies to the work.

 

  • May be assigned to various special schedule shifts and schedules on a rotating basis as required by work load.

 

  • Performing similar or less skilled work as may be assigned.

 

 

Qualifications:

 

Applicants need to have successfully completed a recognized apprentice program and achieved their class 'A' Lineman's status. Applicants need to presently hold a valid Class ‘B’ Commercial Driving License.  Applicants selected for this position will be expected to work overtime in accordance with departmental requirements and required to participate in federally mandated drug testing programs prior to selection, randomly on a year round basis, after an accident and for reasonable cause.
