


This is ONLY For New Jersey State Employees The New Jersey Veterans Memorial Home in Params is seeking an experienced Employee Relations Coordinator. Under the supervision of Administrator, Employee Relations, plans, develops, organizes and supervises staff or programs designed to assist in carrying out the employee relations function for a state department; does related duties. The Employee Relations Coordinator position is responsible for ensuring that all actions, employee movements, new procedures and supervisor/subordinate relationships are carried out in accordance with the terms of the Union contracts in a facility that has approximately 380 employees covered by three Unions (CWA, AFSCME & IFPTE). This position is responsible to represent management. Serving as the management liaison with the unions; training supervisors to implement the corrective/disciplinary process at the facility; representing management at departmental disciplinary hearings as needed and in proceedings of the Public Employee Relations Commission. Duties include preparing documentary evidence for higher level appeals and unfair labor practices; instituting and recommending employee relations policy and resolutions of grievances to management; researching and preparing responses to union inquiries or other departmental officials. This position is responsible to schedule, chair, and prepare reports of various union meetings; coordinate with management to ensure compliance with the negotiated contracts; and follow-up on issues that arise in such meetings. Assist legal representatives on related labor relations matters as needed. Evaluate employee performance and conduct, to recommend the hiring, firing, promoting, and disciplining of employees. Required to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the department and assigned facility. REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree. EXPERIENCE: Six (6) years of experience in labor relations work involving grievance procedures, processing unfair labor practices, arbitration and public employee contract negotiation, employer-employee contract or agreement interpretation and administration, two (2) years of which shall have been in conducting employee appeal and grievance hearings. Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute additional experience as indicated on a year-for-year basis with thirty (30) semester hour credits being equal to one (1) year of experience. SUBSTITUTIONS: A Master’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Industrial or Labor Relations or other area related to position responsibilities may be substituted for one (1) year of the indicated experience.
